and heres my painting reference from the good old index astartes

This is my first 5th ed list, having not played the game since 2nd and 3rd ed. I have followed the game through buying the books, WD and using the net. Since all my models have been given away i am starting completely from scratch.
The list is based on my 3rd ed CSM force, so not optimal by any means but hopefully still quite competitive.
My main aim with this army is to get a high quality finish on all my models, conversions and try some free hand on my tanks.
Speaking of tanks, i will hopefully be making most of them from scratch, using plasticard and a laser cutter.
I am a big 2nd ed fan (the 5th ed codex hurts my eyes) so i will be adding retro 'nods' here and there.

    Re: EC CSM army

So my first foray into ebay landed me with:

    2 spawn
    3x 5 man CSM sprue
    2x noise marine champs
2x noise marines w/ sonic blasters
    2x noise marines w/ blastmasters
    2x noise marines w/ bolters
2x oop chaos heavy weapon sprues
    5x CSM legs
    5x SM torsos + legs
2x terminator legs, power fists + torsos
    1 chaos rhino box
1 chaos vehicle accessory sprue - i didnt win the other rhino
a pack of CSM tank drivers/commanders -for the scratchbuilds

Also as i no longer have my rather extensive bitz box i bought some odd bits for general converting fun:

    mutations sprue
7 lizardmen heads -i was going to have them on my raptors, but they went from the list
    20 dark eldar spikes
    3 standards/banners w/ assorted bits
    dryad arm sprues

    Re: EC CSM army

I then started assembling the models in no paticular order. I am still not 100% settled on a final list, you can critique it here:

    http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=245364

I love how big the new terminators are compared to the power armour marines, some pics of the noise marines without my oop noise marine and a pic of my whole force so far - with their pixar apc ;-)

I have a preference for working in plastic, (easier converting) so the sonic weapons will probs be the only metal you see.

    Re: EC CSM army

So i then came to my 2 spawn, which will be my daemon princes.

Im using these models for a number of reasons; i hate metal, they are really easy to convert, come with loads of extra bits, look fantastic and the rules for spawn are such that nobody will EVER use them.
When the new plastic daemon princes come out i will be first in line.

One DP is crawling on all fours with a tentacle head 'sniffing' out prey, its wings are on its back. The other is leaning forward with 4 scythe limbs pointing to its mouth, i may put this DP on a 'disc' or buy some gargoyle wings.

You will also be able to see the start of the oblits, im basing them on the new chaos plastic terminators for most of the reasons above. they are currently armed with powerfists, the other arms will have the oop chaos conversion beamer.

I dont know jack about army-making so i cannot comment there but your Emperors Children are off to a good start.

I didnt see much regarding paint schemes so what are you going for? I would really like to see some awesome EC coming out of this.

also, your pics are blurry but its not a prob now as you are just showing bare minis. but when you get done with a paint job do them some justice with the photo. im not the best either but some little things helped me out such as when using a digital camera, look for a "flower" setting(its a pic of a flower). its really good for the pictures itself, an then, depending on your lighting, turn the flash on an off an see how your pics come out. a camera picture can end up not showing any detail so its good to see different results.

    Best of luck to you

    heya hushrong,
For my paint scheme i think i will go for chaos black, liche (?) purple and maybe tentacle pink, trim will be gold/silver. My paint style is to put base colours on then layer with drybrushing, ink/chaos black wash maybe.
This said i havent painted a mini in a few years, im hearing good things about vellejo paints?

Agreed, my first pics are crap lol. The newer ones are better, i used only natural light no flash, coming from behind the camera and tried to steady the camera close to te floor.
    My friend Complicity http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=239758
mentioned the flower setting, i will investigate this further.

    thanks for the post!

    Re: EC CSM army

    10 man squad assembled:

    1 squad leader w/ auspex
    1 w/ icon
    1 w/ lascannon
    3 w/ mutated arms
    2 'untouched'
    1 w/ lizardman head - my favourite

The more decerning will realise that is only 9, i havent yet got a plasma/melta for the 10th marine.

As a fellow EC collector, I look forward to seeing how yours turn out. Are you going for a real vibrant pink, or something a little more mellow?

    Re: EC CSM army

Hello eltanko, i was admiring your EC earlier today actually. I will probs go for a tentacle pink (do GW still run that colour?) with a dark purple (liche purple?)
In my 3rd ed EC list i painted different parts of each SM purple or pink, so that no two EC were the same but overall they had a unified look. Make sense?

    Re: EC CSM army

Pretty good idea for a theme, im more partial to the liche purple colors(i tried one EC as they are my favorite) and i think the purple an gold is their thing. but i do like the mash up of bright colors that the current ones have. Black armor, purple an pink here an there, then the bright/neon-ish blues an greens for things like top knots.

and a good idea with mixing up what parts get painted in what color. makes sense as the EC are no long the organized legion they once were.

still waiting for a test mini

    Re: EC CSM army

One thing i forgot to mention was this project is an intended 'slow burn', i have a young son (another on the way), house, car and fiancee to spend money/time on. So along with working full time yadda yadda, you get the picture.

Heres a close up of my noise marines and start of the havoc squad:

For my havocs i am using the CSM tank commander torso back, this is beacuse i didnt have enough 'normal' torso pieces and the fact they stand out with the pipe/wire detail.

As for paint, i have just discovered that a new independent stockist has opened up in my home town. This is great news as i may be able to get some games in regularly and maybe get some practice on my paint scheme.

    Re: EC CSM army

The troops are amassing, and that understandable about having other things in life.

THe Havocs with tank-based marine torso's sound interesting(i havent seen one before) but it sounds like a good plan. I may have to check it out for my Iron Warriors as it sounds mechanical.

    Keep it coming!

    Re: EC CSM army

So i have been thinking about my troops:

5 noise marines w/ 2 sonic blasters, blastmaster, champ w/ doom siren, power weapon in RHINO

5 noise marines w/ 1 snoic blaster, blastmaster, champ w/ doom siren, power weapon in RHINO

    10 marines w/ 1 special weapon, 1 lascannon, icon

2 units move forward, one babysits objective. I have started to wonder about the 5 man noise marine squads, after reading a few threads on them. I think that having a doom siren champ and blastmaster in BOTH squads is a little overkill and maybe a point sink.
So the squads revised could be:

10 marines w/ 2 melta, icon in RHINO

7 noise marines w/ 2 sonic blaster, champ w/ doom siren, power weapon in RHINO

    7 noise marines w/ 4 sonic blasters, 1 blastmaster

This gives me the same battle options as before; 2 rhino rush, 1 support and gives me the flexibilty of moving the support squad while it fires. Plus both noise marine squads are larger/ less fragile

Looking good so far Momus! I think that mixing up colours and conversions is very fitting and a good idea for the emperors children, plus a squad with identical strange colouring and mutations would look a bit - mutations are random after all

    Re: EC CSM army

Yesterday i visited my new local GWIS, it was ok, small and quiet. After speaking to the owner he revealed to me that there was a 'back room' which could fit up to 20 tables for tournament play. ^_^

I have started to think how i can speed up my army, paint is definalty needed so i purchased chaos black, codex grey, liche purple and warlock purple. They had sold out of boltgun metal, i will return to buy gold, flesh colour and maybe white aswel.

For now i will have a scout for brushes at work to see if i can borrow some as i have a fine brush set on order.

I have also made progress on the RHINO front, i got my test design finished just before corel draw crashed.

    Re: EC CSM army

cool to hear about your store.

for speeding up the painting, perhaps using the spray to coat all of the EC black(an it is their dominant color). then go in with a detail brush to paint up parts in various colors(trim in gold, pads in purples, etc). then a find detail brush for highlights(something that i need to learn for painting minis that are mostly black). then a nice wash. that should get it to tabletop standards if you really want to get em done en masse.

but then take more time with the higher ranking minis to set them above their rank an file counterparts.

Hope to see some new pics in the near future bud.

    Re: EC CSM army

Do you mean spray gun or spraycan? I have used both (mostly legal) and have found a spraygun to be a finer 'mist' of paint than a spraycan. Obviously this can be adjusted with hand control, distance and different 'heads' but still the gun always seems more effective.
I probs will not fork out for a gun, so are cans all that?

    Re: EC CSM army

As workload and family life will get more demanding i shall pause army building soon, depending on how busy i am i may just paint or stop altogether until the summer.
Lately i have been distracted by 2nd ed books,i gained codex imperalis and 2nd ed chaos codex for very little. One paticular eldar story gave me fond memories, i may 'update' it and post it in the fluff section.
Anyways during a busy week at work i managed to get in a design and laser session, i have now switched to 2D design but the images show my first mock up using Corel.

    and something for a friend

These designs are just 'panels' to asses size, final versions will be 'nets'.

Looking very interesting, as do the valk canopies How much fine detail e.g. rivets, battle scars etc can you add to the chassis of the MONO? (I gave it a new name to save confusion )
