I think I'll clean them up completely and then prime them, hopefully details will become clear with the prime.

Sry for not updating, I was too exited with the new models and I have been having some problems with my cams batteries.

and more updates...damn, days pasted by so fast I even forgot to post some pictures, Some of the next pictures were taken a few days ago, some of the last ones date from a few minutes ago or at least from today.

Agains the archon and his best buddies. To me, it's the best retinue an archon can have.
(metal sucks, too much reflection, but these guys aren't clean (=> mold lines, so can't prime them yet)

    µ

and the lovely harlies (death jester is in the back btw, no shadowseer, still got to buy the new one, got plenty of old shadowseers though)
All were upgraded with harlequins kisses, I spend quite some time thinking about how to do this. Basically I use a splinter pistol, cut it up to leave the small thing in the centre, then took an old splinter riffle and cutt off the barrel, cut off everything to leave just a thin tube, I put some greenstuff on this, let it dry and the trick was done. They may seem a bit long, but they're actually the same length as the real ones.

    Re: Dark Moon Kabal

The lovely reavers, put on heat lance, one blaster, no clatrops or any such upgrades, just too expensive. I gave one the raider spear thingy, it just seemed like a good idea, like a reaver knight : D

and last saturday I wanted to get some wwps and a ravager, but fate decided otherwise, wwp never made it to the store, it was out of stock even before it arrived, so money was spend on hellions intead. I don't regret it though, I want a second hellion box when I can afford it.

and the ravager, a lovely action figure! Love the model, he's extremely awesome. He's quite expensive though and I already had 10 anyway, I'll get some more in the future for sure! He's also in the top five units I want to paint first.

now a bit more boring but still quite cool, my last few warriors:
btw first 20 have (each squad) 1 blaster + 1 DL, no sybarite
Last squad will count as trueborn with 2 SC, carabines, + draco, yes kind of useless leader upgrade, but I made this guy mostly for the coolness of convertion the model. I gave the draco the helmet of the archon minus the horns, looks much better like this.

No real worries on warriors, I hope I don't have to remind you I still have tons of them, even have like 80 painted.

    Re: Dark Moon Kabal

    first Wych squad

A male Hekatrix, why not? These might actualy count as Bloodbrides, I made the 3 wych weapons since I don't have enough wych weapons on my other old wyches. Gauntlets and the swords can't be found on the old wyches, so I need as many WWs as I can get to spread them out in my old wych squads.

I must say the impaler and shardnet are my least favorite, two other ones are awesome if you ask me, love both rules and look of the new hydra gauntlets.

    Second wych squad

You'll notice this one cool model who seems to be throwing her shardnet forward, obviosuly some greenstuff was needed here and there to adapt the arms.

damn...I got so much more to paint...

Not everything is on the picture, I've finished building everything btw, just need to clean up all moldlines now and then I can start painting these lovely models.

    Re: Dark Moon Kabal

Obviously finish building everything means I've started to paint, first obvious choice was a test mini to try out new techniques, try a new paitn sheme, here's the result!

Use some of the techniques used in the white dwarf, made some changes, added some steps.
I didn't like the cloth pieces, they weren't pale enough. Skin tends to become paler when there's no light, which is the case Commoragh , therefore most skins would become quite pale. The cloth is skin colored, flash made it brighter and whiter though, can't remove te flash or else you don't see the armor well ><. I did do some freehand on the cloth, the warrior on page 2 has a similar cloth piece with some symbols, I imagined it would be perfect for a freehand lover like me, besides, it gives the model some extra coolness.

I painted the gun green to represent the poison aspect.
The eyes I did them like in the white dwarf, shinny and bright like light. At first I wanted to avoid this, to keep the eyes like gems, because I was thinking the helmet would be too bright, but once I actually painted the helmet I saw it would be ok.

Next models I want to paint now are the rest of his unit and the archon as well as a raider. Ravager and wyches probably will follow. In any case I'll only paint new models, judging by exprience I know that I'll need about a year to paint all these...It's quite the nice little army around 1500 pts if I'm not mistaken.

    Hope you enjoy!

You're smashing your way through this!

Any chance of a recipe for that purple armour? It's brilliant.

He looks superb! I really like the colours of the rifle, it fits well but also contrasts nicely. Which grey did you use for the barrel?

The eyes look great and the armour highlighting is very effective. Inspiring stuff

    Re: Dark Moon Kabal

    paints I used.

Almost the same as the guide in the white dwarf.

    1) first layer was chaos black, I don't like the black from the primer, it's not the same.
    2) some midnight blue drybrush, afterwards some chaos black in between the armor plates, and in all darker areas.
    3) Liche purple, though not just a simple layer, I use my brush carefully to create something similar to a carapace. Used a very thin brush to do this.
This actually gives a better blending than regular layer painting.
4)first highlights with a pre-prepared mix of: liche purple + some white. Not quite pink, just a lighter version of purple (not pink yet), to ensure it was purple and not pink I added a tiny little bit of ice blue.
    5) extreme highlights on edges with another pre-prepared mix of liche purple, white and a some ice blue. Ratios are close to 1/3 each.

grey on the riffle is normal codex grey with fortress grey highlights.

Now the harlequin kisses were made with these parts:

SO cut them, file them and glue them, this is most of the work.
Use a VERY thin amount of greenstuff on the thin barrel , I put it all over the barrel, then rubbed it backwards (yes exactly like something else else some guys like to do...) Basically a very tiny amount of greenstuff and after you've rubbed it backwards you'll have the form of the kiss. You can work on it with a modelling knive to make it sharper. Rubbing back wards creates the sharp effect of the kiss, don't use too much greenstuff, just a tiny little bit.

    Re: Dark Moon Kabal

I just finished 3 more warriors just a couple of minutes ago,
    here are the pictures:

I can only dream about how cool an entire squad will look, next in line are the rest of the squad as well as the archon. I'm confident enough to start painting him, I did enough testing on the warriors.

I just can't wait to start painting the soultrap and the huskblade and all the cool things on the archon.

    Re: Dark Moon Kabal

Well the paintjob is different, some of my old stuff still looks pretty good, besides when I mix the old and the new models you don't see the difference that much until you start looking carefully.
Take the old incubi, they still look pretty cool.

Better models also make the paintjobs look better.
Some of the old models look better than others...

I'll have to see how old models look with the new colorsheme.

My first reaction here was "so he's got a lot of plastic, good for him" ...and then I saw the closeups. It turns out you can and do paint! They look very good. Have to say though, I like the dark eldar - but I love the Nids!

    Very, very impressive collection.

    Re: Dark Moon Kabal

Too bad I won't continue my nids anywhere near the future, but I will eventually, once I'm done painting most of my dark eldar and my craftworld army chances are I could go back to nids which I kind of did finish anyway, but there's always room for expansion.

Thanks for the great compliments, always appreciate them a lot!

Anyways, finally after a lot of breaks (X mas, new year, other parties and other excuses to not paint) I got my first squad done!

The last 6 members, as you can see I've mixed wych heads on warriors and some goes for wyches, not a single warrior has the same head as another, same goes for the wyches and I don't think it will be that hard to keep up. I'll just have to invent and convert new heads.

    And finally the first squad!

BTW do'nt expect my army to be compeltely like this, exactly like my other troops, these warriors won't follow a strict color sheme, the only thing you'll keep seeing is black and purple with the same spikes and helmets and weapon, with many many variations : )
It's all to represent the pirate side of the army and to make it less boring

I hope you enjoy this first squad, next in line is the archon and his best buddies => incubi!

Funny start, I start painting the archon and immediately... I wasn't satisfied with how he looked. I started converting him some more lol. I'm pretty sure he's going to be extremely awesome once finished I got some insane ideas in my head on how to paint him, I've really been thinking a very long time on how to get this guy right, I'm sure the efforts will be worth it.

Last minute I changed two things: postion of the sword, I just didn't like the initial pose at all, some greenstuff was needed to adapt the position and the arm.
Second thing: I always love the soul trap on the codex cover, so I decided to give that one to my archon. It's a seriously useless upgrade who took hours to complete lol, but at least now I'm satisfied with my archon.
One thing is for sure, my archon will look very unique .

Those warriors look really beautiful and quite inovative. Most warriors I saw were painted in a boring color scheme but not yours!

I have one question. How did you paint the gold on the warriors and weapons. It's really nice. Could you tell me how you did it?

    Re: Dark Moon Kabal

    Ehm, for the gold
-first 2-3 layers of gold to get the gold color on the part.
-Then some black wash on the overything, 1-2 layer even, you want some dark gold, but not black either, it's all about spreadingt he wash correctly.
-Then I put some gold on the eldges and the parts that stick out
-to finish a mix of gold + white (brighter gold) to highlight.

I love the warriors, your painting skill is really to be admired by a newb like me. The overwhelming size of the army is impressive but watching you do the new models is very inspiring. I am torn between Tau and Dark Eldar and have not decided which to do, but your really helping me to lean one way!! Thanks for all the posts this was a great read and the pictures show how much work you have put into your army.
