Pretty good looking stuff. Dammit. This about guarantees me doing High Elves. It will be nice painting something more uniform(as to gear/clothing) for a change. The Rat Ogre looks nice too, but there is no way in hell I am collecting/painting Skaven, regardless of how awesome the newer models look. I'll leave that to the sadist painters out there.

Nice. These really do look good - the limbs of the griffin are amazingly delicate and deatiled for a model in a starter set, and the ROs are as good a plastic model as I have ever seen. This really is an excellent showcase box set, and I will be buying - Well done GW

is the griffon an homage to Tommy Cooper? (just like that!)

what do we think about the high elves convertability to the "dark" side?... - doable or waste of time?

Some not great photos from Librarium Online, but at least you get a glimpse of the Mage and some more Ellyrian Reavers.

Re: Island of Blood Starter Set Contents

What happened to the twenty slaves, five globadiers, ten seaguard and the terrain bits mentioned by several reliable rumour posters?

While these look nice and all, the contents made me go from 'buying several boxes and starting two new armies if the models look good' to 'considering buying a box, but possibly just the mini-book'.

If they won't release seaguard plastics separately, making a high elf army just got very hard. Either you buy a ton of starter sets with ten models a piece (including far too many command models), or you're forced to use the subpar archer and spearman kits. And I'm not buying boxfuls of ugly, expensive minis so I can get some use out of several cheap, pretty minis. I'd rather buy more stuff for my existing armies.

Makes me hope GW is still holding back a sprue so they can 'surprise' people. Would seem strange though, as they are supplied in advance so stores can paint the starter kits in preparation for the release. Still, if the missing stuff pops up it'll be quite expensive for me, as they do look nice.

Found the HE mage, crappy somewhat out of focus shot because I was in a hurry at this point.

He appears to be standing a magic vortex/water/elemental swirl. Very dynamic, very cool. Was probably my favorite overall model outside the griffin.

The poster above me is correct: These models are so good they are incredibly out of place with the current line. Even putting them side by side for example the swordmaster is like 20% more bulky and filled out than the old pewter line version.

An army that is part Blood Island "bling" and part older plastic is would look very strange IMO.

Well those rat ogres look really good- and the clanrats and weapon teams look solid. From a skaven point of view the set looks very good.

Interested to see how the elves match up but those skaven look very good for a starter set[and the rat ogres just look very good regardless..].

Edit- was watching the All Black vs Springbok game and didn't hit refresh... High elf pics.... *takes a deep breath..*

I suspect there may be more than was in the initial box. Regardless, expect resellers to make some coin on eBay when the skaven/high elf players go looking to fill out those units.

Those miniatures are positively orgasmic! The rat ogres are an improvement that i can't even begin to fathom, the sword masters are sublime, the ellyrian reavers look superb. The clanrats are a bit predictable- wouldn't it have been fab if they had given us a different pose to the ones you usually get? The warp fire thrower and poisoned wind mortar look just as good as we could ever have hoped (love the fire thrower- looks exactly like the picture in the book).

And as for the griffin- well hats off to whoever managed to get that thing to work in the box- it's without doubt the best griffin we've had, even if it is a touch small for my own liking, and the rider is pretty much perfect.

I am very very very excited about this

I remember in 6th edition GW actually sold the individual sprues of empire / orcs seperately (and £3 for 8-10 models as well!) , any ideas if this might be the case for the newer set (possibly at a much higher price tho...)?

Dont know if it has been mentioned elsewhere: price tag in the States is 99USD. Definitely a swinging deal considering the price/quality of the models in the battalion boxes.

I hope they do this, but I doubt it. I don't want to see a ridiculous mark up, cost them the same as the other stuff on the shelf, make it feasible, and people will buy this stuff in droves - they're probably the best looking fantasy models out there right at the moment.

Although....HE are strongly rumored to be getting some minis aside from this set in the near future.

What? This thing's almost dragon-sized! I exaggerate, but seriously it's HUGE!
