Re: Captain Brown's Sisters of Battle Painting Log

Thanks Gen.Steiner, I'll get a shot of them up for you later.

In the meantime my last few days have not been without some work, a Sister with a Melta Gun, built from a left over Heavy Weapon body that was missing the heavy weapon (I think it was a serious mis-cast), some Eldar arms and bits. Inspired by another Sister of Battle Conversion I remember seeing somewhere on this board, as soon as I find it I will add a link.

That's actually a really simple and effective conversion. I like the dynamism of it too!

I love the Sister's of Battle fluff and would LOVE to start a Sisters army but, I'd rather them in plastics. Your army pushes me closer to the edge of just going out and starting an army now. Keep up the great work! +Sub

Thanks, but the pose is one I saw in an earlier log of White Armoured Sisters (and they armed her with a Plasma Pistol rather than a Plasma Gun), so credit should go where credit is due. I just did not need a Sister commander figure as mine were part of a small Witch Hunter force.

Here they are, a small unit of 20 (well with the Priest figures filling the ranks). They are a mix of Escher and Cawdor Gangers, some retinue figures, a plastic guardsman, some WFB figures including a cook armed only with a wooden spoon.

I went up to the interior this weekend for a wedding, so I only have painted up one more figure, this one was another Canoness figure (the old version with the Icon and the Combi-bolter) that also had sat in the box of silver figures waiting a lick of paint. I should have a picture of her up tomorrow when there is better light.

Thank you for the comments Breazer and Werewolff.

Here is the second Canoness figure, now that I had some better light to take the photos.

I figure I will use the figure as a Sister Superior.

What do you mean, "only with a spoon" - that cook's got the most fearsome weapon of all; his faith!

Cracking Zealot mob, and one of the only ones I've ever seen that doesn't use Flagellants and/or Redemptionists.

The old Canoness figure's wonderful, I really like the model (I have one and she is my VSS for the Canoness's bodyguard Celestians). Your interpretation is a classic.

    Ha-ha, thanks Gen. Steiner.

OK now for something along the wacky front, these were some models I acquired in a trade, I think the are Rackham figures, but they have made some great stand-ins for Death cultists.

Since the original Death Cultists seem to be available through mail order only now...and these three had been sitting in the bits book looking rather sad. Next up I wonder if I can build Archo-Flagellants the same way.

Here is the second Exorcist with the new purity seals.

Next up a picture of the whole army that is complete up to this point...well excluding the units that are no longer in the army list. :cries:

Re: Captain Brown's Sisters of Battle Painting Log

So the photos did not come out as well as normal as I left the Macro setting on and forgot to turn it off for the group shot, so I will upload some pictures of the individual units later so you can see the detail (some you have seen already of course).

In front is my new Command Squad, made up from the Canoness, the old Canoness (who will be the Dialogus until I can find a better model), a Hospitaler, and three sisters with a variety of special weapons (these were left over from my Dominion Squad that suddenly became truncated with the Rhino being in the paint shop).

Behind them is the Sisters Repentia and on either side are two large Battle Sister Squads with Simulacrum Imperialis, Melta-Gun and Heavy Bolter. Behind those squads and the Repentia is my unit of Seraphim.

In the back row I have the much smaller Dominion Squad with a Sister Superior carrying a Storm Bolter and backed up by an Immolator for transport. Then the two Exorcists and on their left (your right) you can see the Retributor Squad, which is a mix of Heavy Bolters and Multi-Meltas.

Oh and a Confessor and a number of Priests are sprinkled throughout. The Zealots are no where to be found, nor is the Inquisitor as they have been excluded from the Army List in the WD.

I still have got two Rhinos and a mass of Seraphim still to paint.

Re: Captain Brown's Sisters of Battle Painting Log

As promised some close-ups of the smaller units.

My new Command Squad with the old Canoness subbing in for a Dialogus and some left over Sisters that were once part of my Domion Squad...once I get the Rhino's repainted they may rejoin it.

Dominions presently riding in an Immolator...which makes them a very big target and usually the first casualties. The Sister Superior carrying a Storm Bolter to increase firepower.

Retributors...sort of a poor man's heavy support in that they are split between anti-infantry and anti-armour...and do neither really well.

Re: Captain Brown's Sisters of Battle Painting Log

    Thanks razormasticator,

So next up is a second squad of Seraphim...not because I have any particular love of the troop type, but because I have a load of them left unpainted (I think they came in an unrelated trade where the other party upped their side of the deal with some Sisters).

Here are the first four, with one borrowed from the previous squad of eight that I finished a few years ago - the borrowed figure is the one with the pin support rather than the standard pewter/lead tab.

Bolt Pistols have been drilled as per someone's request from page one of the PLOG.

Re: Captain Brown's Sisters of Battle Painting Log

    Thanks Still Standing,

Finally got some time to work on these gals again. Painted two more Seraphim, so now I no longer have to borrow one from the first squad. One squad of eight and one of six now, more still to paint.

So here is the second squad with only the recently painted.

Re: Captain Brown's Sisters of Battle Painting Log

    Thanks philbrad,

Weekend just ended and I finished two more Seraphim, including a second Seraphim with the two hand flamers. What is the preferred employment of Seraphim special weapons: Flamers or Inferno Pistols?

So two squads of eight now. Still four more to paint, although one is a third Sister Superior with a Plasma Pistol and Power Sword, so I think I might be converting again.

Another update, painted another two last night.

So one squad of ten models is now complete.

Now two more models left to do, one is going to be a conversion.

Re: Captain Brown's Sisters of Battle Painting Log

So I had a Sister Superior Seraphim as one of the last models, and obviously I cannot have an extra Plasma Pistol and Power Sword in the ranks so a conversion of the model was needed.

I began by removing the sword and replacing it with a Bolt Pistol. A second Bolt Pistol replaced the Plasma Gun and a left over purity symbol and a lick of paint and there is a replacement Seraphim with two Bolt Pistols.

Had to pin her up because the tab supporting her broke during some cutting...oops.

One more to paint and then the second squad is complete.
