Forge World Newsletter #284-IA Apocalypse 2nd edition, Emplacement

    Hi there,
With Games Day UK looming on the horizon, we’ve got more exclusive pre-release items to announce today. As with the other exclusive releases we’ve revealed in the last few days, these will be on sale at Games Day UK in limited numbers.

Imperial Armour Apocalypse Second Edition on sale at Games Day UK (http://lyris.games-workshop.com/t/96867/5350621/5973/0/)
First announced at Games Day Chicago back in July, we can now confirm that the brand new Imperial Armour Apocalypse Second Edition Expansion book will be available to buy in limited numbers at Games Day UK, priced at 26.

This book substantially updates and expands the first edition of Imperial Armour Apocalypse with 32 new entries, and is packed with over 90 Apocalypse datasheets for Legendary units such as the mighty Crassus Armoured Assault Transport to the fell Daemon Lords of Chaos. Also included are new Forge World units for Warhammer 40,000 including the Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought and its variants, and the Dark Eldar Tantalus.

This 128 page, full-colour hardback book provides comprehensive and updated descriptions and rules for using all of Forge World’s recent additions to its model range in your games of Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse. Within you’ll also find new Apocalypse battle missions to play including ‘The Lion and the Hawk’, ‘Shattered City’ and ‘Fortress Assault’, as well as lots of new options and background to enhance your games.

Imperial Armour Apocalypse Second Edition is available to pre-order now for despatch from the 30th of September.

    Imperial Emplacement
Adding to our new range of hollow resin scenery is the Imperial Emplacement (http://lyris.games-workshop.com/t/96867/5350621/5974/0/), designed by Blake Spence. This is a detailed free-standing terrain piece that will be on sale at Games Day UK in limited numbers, well in advance of its scheduled release date.

Designed as an emplacement for almost any size of Warhammer 40,000 vehicle, from Chimeras and Leman Russ to Macharius and Malcador-based super heavy tanks, and even the mighty Baneblade, the Imperial Emplacement features a wealth of detail such as ammunition stowage, unexploded munitions, a targeting cogitator and an observer’s position. The base of the Imperial Emplacement has been reinforced with trench plates to act as duckboards, and the scenery piece also features plenty of space for crew models as well as vehicles.

Ideal for use as both a gaming piece to fight battles over or the basis of a detailed diorama, the Imperial Emplacement will cost 22.

Forge World and Warhammer Forge Studio
The ever-popular Forge World Studio area will have even more amazing displays, artwork, concept sketches and work-in-progress projects for you to admire at this year’s Games Day - our entire design team will be on hand, split across three areas, allowing you better access to talk to our talented designers and to see some amazing, as yet unseen miniatures. The Studio team have also been hard at work creating a totally new display board for this year’s Games Day, showcasing part of the Eldar assault upon Betalis III that will be detailed in the forthcoming Imperial Armour Volume 11: The Doom of Mymeara.

On the subject of books, jaw-droppingly detailed models are only one half of the Forge World range. We also have a dedicated Book Design team who are responsible for the colour profiles, layout, artwork, photographic art, star maps, page textures – everything that makes an Imperial Armour or Warhammer Forge book the masterpiece it is. Graphic Artists Ian Strickland, Rhys Pugh, Kenton Mills and Sam Lamont will be showcasing their work and explaining exactly what goes into laying out a book, and they may even have their high-tech cogitators with them so you can see this work in action. The chance to see a piece of artwork being worked on ‘live’ cannot be missed!

Games Day Italy Reservations now being taken
With Games Day Italy, held at the Forum Guido Monzani in Modena on 16th October, rapidly approaching, we are now accepting reservation orders for this event. This is the best way of ensuring that we will have exactly the models you’re looking for, packed up and waiting for you to pay for on the day.

IA:A2E out sooner than I expected. Nice. Terrain piece is decent. Pretty good price too.

Looking at the new Apoc book from FW you can see the chaos contemptor. Not sure if it is just regular contemptor with brass etched or a new scupt.

When you click on the link to the Forgeworld website take a closer look at the pictures. Points values on the Deamons and Dark Eldar are visible, but the Chaos Warhound and Contemptors are not. I wonder if the Chaos Warhound will be going up in points?

Also, Chapter/chaos specific versions of the Contemptor? Sweet!!! I wonder if there will be a Furioso version for the Blood angels? Perhaps the Mortis version is Dark Angels only?

It is converted, not a new sculpt, last I heard.

Glad to see I was right about the terrain.

I was hoping there would be more info on IA:11, but it appears the focus will be apocalypse 2nd ed. That's somewhat disappointing. I suppose I'll have to just big-boy it up and put my patient pants on.

So to be clear: the book is mostly the stuff already in the existing book, slightly updated, plus 32 new things, making 90 in total?

Bit cheeky charging 26 for that isn't it, if that's the case? Errata/FAQs/changes to existing stuff should be free, and the new stuff should be in an all-new, cheaper book. FW books are always awesome but they're never cheap - asking that much money for something where two-thirds of it isn't even new is pretty iffy IMO.

Not that much really, as it is still hardback. I prefer the new book with additions than an old book plus a bunch of erratas and updates online.

From what can be seen off the blured out pages of the book, Space Wolves seem to get a Contemptor with different (more?) options both in armament / equipment and rules (at least to BAs next page).

Could that be correct or is it just my woofsanity?
    Any inside info?

Also, no special miniature for Wolftemptor on the book photo and funny / unusual red (?) helmet.

Yes, the rpice of the Apoc book is fine if you do not already own the previous one. If they did it with errata/new thinner book, it would probably be MORE expensive for me to "get it all" than in the current format.

Looking forward to seeing more of this "hollow resin" terrain. Looks nicer than the old injected foam stuff GW made, and with the conversion rates the prices are very reasonable by today's standards.

As for the contemptors, it does look like there's a couple of different options in the BA/SW versions. Hopefully it doesn't become a psyker

I'm sorry. Butbi think the Imperial emplacement is one of the dullest pieces of terrain I've ever seen on sale. I'm sure the new terrain method will be great but if this piece is an indication of what's to come. It doesn't bode well.

I mean come on. A big rectangle with some sand bags. It's just not exciting. When your schedules and production is limited, this sub par effort is a missed opportunity.

Normally my opinions are not this strong. I'm sure some people will love it. I think its high time FW lost some of their world war 2 fetish. It isn't nearly futuristic enough.

It looks to me like they might be keeping some of the stuff out of IA:A2 to put it in IA:11 (The Eldar one). The Revenant Titan and shadow spectres are also missing. Although I'm surprised they put in the Phantom and not the Revenant, that seems backward to me..

So, I'm weak and feeble and put down the IA Apocalypse Second Edition. In fairness, I don't own the original one.

Excellent! I'm looking forward to getting this and seeing if they did any updates to the Tyranid stuff.

Well obviously we would like everything in there, but that was never going to happen. The phantom being in there but not the revenant makes perfect sense. What don't you understand? They may update the revenant rules, but currently we have rules for it. The phantom we do not. It's been out quite a while and ia11 isn't going to be out until about Christmas so I for one can not wait another 40 hours to read it
