This is stunning work. Honestly it's almost exactly how I'd want mine to lookall the color choices are bang-on. Question: black or white primer?

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'd like to add my voice to the choir praising your painting skills and the results you've achieved on these mini's.
In looking closely at what you've done with the minis, I have to ask how much time you've spent studying the art style which originally inspired the sculpts themselves? I'm thinking of the way you painted the eyes on some of the characters. It looks very much like a drawing and adds tremendously to the look of your final results.

You do not have to take Photos, it would help tremendously to tell us your technique.
Did you use a Brush? What size? An Airbrush? Did you use glazing or washes? How many layers of colours? Did you prime with black or white. How much water do you apply to your paints. How long do you need per miniature? This would help us greatly, thank you very much for this. Also you might want to put it into the Fantasy or random blog section, this is stuff for the legends.
Hi Darsc Zacal, with gaming minis like these I generally just have the card/manual next to me that has any reference art and paint 'em similar, not only does this save me the time of having to think up colour schemes when it comes to identifying minis in game it helps a bundle! (Dust Tactic is a prime example)
Max jet, I will try and put a little guide together, little stuck for time as I type but will sort summat out over the next couple of days. main prob I have with doing tuts is 90% of my mini painting is done simply to chill and relax and as such I really don't take much notice of how I actually get to the finished product, I haven't changed much of my technique for the 20 odd years I have been painting apart from discovering the use of an airbrush to lay down base colours quicker a few years ago so I apologise as I just assume most of my methods are pretty basic and common knowledge and don't really need to be shown! 99% of my finished product boils down to the thousand I painted before it and simply having learned through experience where to dot the 'I's and cross the 'T's. I suppose if I can offer a few shortcuts for people out there I better post something pronto!
Anyhoo!
Bosses done, jobs a good 'un! On to the next project, hopefully be having a 'super' version of this game this Tuesday so will try and get some pics of everything in play now its all painted

Rex is the 'miniboss', he is really just misunderstood and needs a big hug (you can field up to two minibosses in a super-game)

Starfire is the main man, Da Boss!

And finally a few pictures of the entire collection of minis you get in the core set, all in all was a nice fun project, certainly different from painting the usual 40k stuff!

Wow. That dragon and Rex is absolutely amazing! Easily the best painting I have seen on SDE models. The blending between shades on the skin is particularly impressive.
That must be one of the best painted copies in existence right nowIt looks just amazing and would be a ton of fun to play with. I'm probably 75% done my own set. With Rex I find myself a little confused by his club - it looks like rock but has horns sticking out of it. Almost thought it was bone or meat

Still wondering if you prime white or black.
I was thinking the same regarding Rex Orangecoke, the club looks almost organic but I took the lazy option and opted for good old fashioned 'big rock grey'
Undercoat in black mate as I find it works with the airbrushed base colours to create its own shadows and dark areas then I just fill things in with the good old hairy stick!
Another question: what color did you use for the monsters' eyes (the yellow)? Actually I'm curious about the pupils too![]()

Stop making me want these minis! I am in love with your blending technique. I suppose the technique would be less effective on GW miniatures, but for these... Pure mastery!
I know you are hesitant, but you would make so many people happy if you would do a tut on how you blend your paints and apply them.

Seriously - those miniatures are decent models but the painting on them makes them look amazing.
Great to see 3 new expansions out for this game, got all 3 and will persevere to paint them between other stuff.
Here is the first one 'Fireflow Denizens'...
The contents f the box, 4 new monsters, a new spawn point and a new item of treasure

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...wDenizens1.jpg
The new spawn point allows all the new monsters to be included
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Denizens11.jpg
Definately a fire theme going on here!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Denizens10.jpg
When the bigger Burning gels are destroyed it's not over, they explode into these little beggers!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Denizens12.jpg
Cute n burny
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...wDenizens9.jpg
The burrow skill looks like it could be quite annoying for our brave heroes!

Next up the Roxor set which includes turtle mounted cannons, turtles, turtles and more turtles and even giant turtles!
They look fantastic, well done! Thanks for posting.

These are fun, when threatened they can retreat into their shells giving them immunity and extra armour! just replace the model with the shell lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...RoxorGang8.jpg
And with those shells lets play Turtle Hockey!

Next up caverns of roxor set, pretty much a repeat of both the smaller box sets but has a couple of large monsters including the Roxor boss and lots of new treasure cards
I think I've worked out just WHY I don't like this game or it's aesthetics.
I wasn't part of that generation with the cutesy nintendo games - I went from having an Atari (80s) to a PS2 (2002) with no console gaming at all in between.
Chibi has never been something I've been fond of.
The game itself plays fine - it' just that I can't make myself like the style of models - which defeats the purpose of getting it for me.

I am the guy who thought the LoTR movies were crap and liked Judge Dredd.
Those paint jobs are absolutely stunning. And make me reaslise that i've had my copy for a year and not even stuck the dragon together properly yet! Looks like that's Christmas sorted!

Quick question on the expansions. Di you buy the 3 seperately or just the big boxed one as I literally only found out they even released expansions but I am slightly confused as to whether I need to buy the 3 or just the big one?

Cracking painting on these, really need to get started on my own SDE box
