    Re: mrtn's terrain

Here's a tutorial for how to make a small marsh pond.
Take an old CD. Cut out a bit from thin plastic (plastic from a blister pack is perfect) to cover the hole in the middle. Glue that on the underside with super glue.
Take some sculpting putty to fill the hole, and take care to fill the groove around it as well.
Sculpt some ground around the edge.
It should now look something like this:

Use PVA/wood glue to glue sand to the ground.
Prime and paint with marshy colours. I prefer to paint the water green and brown and not blue. Varnish it all, matt on the ground and gloss on the water.
Add static grass and/or ground scatter to the land.

The end result should look something like this:

Here's a WIP. No, this is not the finished look of the roof.

Nice job, very homey so far. Looking forward to seeing that all flocked up. By the way, you are aware that you will have to add some electric lighting to the house once it's finished, right?

Thanks sigur. No electrics I'm afraid.

After finally receiving my flower tufts in the mail I was able to finish this:

I don't have any specific plans for it for games or so, it's mainly a one-off because I like hobbit holes.

Cozy is what I'd call it. But the stupid fat hobbit weeded the flower bed instead of the roof again.

nice. They sure had to track him down far but they finally got him! Very nice Richelieu by the way. He does look cunning.

    A belated thank you.

I just trashed an old broken advent candelabra thingy, but saved the ugly plastic golden pine cones and needles. These I put on spikes on coins and made into some kind of bushes. Should be usable either for pretty gardens or for strange jungle plants.

Works perfect for that. Nice repurposing of things. For extra oddness you could try adding some contrasting red bits, maybe like tiny little petals on the top of each "scale". But they're perfectly fine as they are.

Thanks guys! There is a purple wash on the cone that doesn't show very well in the photographs.

Thanks for the tutorial on the marshy water! I am definitely going to use that!

I wonder if mixing acrylic paint with the pva glue would work?

I actually prefer not to use PVA for the water. Just paint and gloss varnish, assuming you want still water.

Looking at this log again I now realize I have to collect björkpollen at first opportunity... They're too useful. And cheap.

I made some hedges. Not the best looking out there, but they'll work I guess.

I also made a cart recently:

Liking the hedges very much. They may not be the prettiest out there, but they're durable and perfectly servicable for games.

    Thanks!

So, those worked as a proof of concept, so I built 14 more!

They look good. Most game time you aren't going to be peering at them closely anyway.

How did you make the hedges? Cut from green mats?
