Ridcully's random blog of Sci fi.

Having started one for fantasy, I decided I might as do one for my Science fiction stuff. This will involve stuff from Battlefleet Gothic, Infinity and Call to arms:Star fleet.
Now for my Battlefleet Gothic vessels:

ID:	139121 The Exorcist class Grand Cruiser "Ark Imperial" I have had it for over a year, it's taken this long to get to this stage. It was originally going to be Vengeance class, but after I lost on of the upper plates I decided it would be an Exorcist and that this would go better with the Britanic. So Fluff wise she was a Vengeance class for her first two centuries of service, until she was crippled by the chaos Battleship "Iron Eternal" of the Iron Warriors legion at the battle of Chaxis. After this she was refitted with launch bays and after a century of nothing but convoy protection, restored he honor at the battle of Marxister IV, under the command of Captain Alexandrus Wooster (Ancestor of Solar Admiral Bertrand Wooster) where she led the repulsion of a chaos attack led by the "Iron Eternal" which she crippled before her old foe was able to escape. Since then she has been kept in the active fleet, valued by the Woosters and perceived as a sort of good luck charm and it is tradition that every Wooster should serve upon her before any other commision.

The day after my exam last week the Star trek call to arms federation fleet finally arrived, and so here is it so far:

Not sure what to do on them now as I'm not feeling that confident about painting names and numbers on them, any thoughts on anything else?

I'm sure theres a company that does transfers for them or for ships in a similar scale if I remember correctly. Worse case scenario you could either print your own or just have them written on the base.

I know mongoose do the transfers, but they only have a class names on them, unless they are different to the picture. I tried a black wash on one of the frigates, but it did not work, yet I am not sure wherever I need to do more for on them in that respect.

Re: Ridcully's random blog of Sci fi.

On mine I black lined the panel gaps I'd accidentally gone over, but I highlighted my ships all the way up to white.

The transfers aren't just the class names, and do cover everything in the fleet box (there are eight frigate names, all 12 of the Constitution class cruisers, etc). It doesn't cover the NCL, NCA or NCF, but covers every other ship class with at least two nmes (one of the names is always the class name, so for the Prometheus class there is the Prometheus and Deadalus).

I better start my own Star Trek plog.

(If anyone knows a generator for federation ship registration number, could I have a link? Don't want to run the risk of giving it a number and then finding out it belongs to another ship).

ID:	142688 One of the Ramius frigates I got, the only one I have assembled so far. Whilst I like this class, I am thinking of converting the other one to be the Harbringer, the infamous heavily modified ship of the traitor Hatterson.
Am going to start work on the Dreadnought before doing any more painting, and may right up some more fluff for the them, some of which may be captains logs.

Re: Ridcully's random blog of Sci fi.

Hers is some fluff for my federation fleet, the 7th fleet (not sure how big star fleet is, but it must presumably be large just to protect trade between federation worlds.)
Based towards the galactic south, the 7th fleet is seen as a warlike and savage element is starfleet.
This is for several reasons, and not entirely unjustified. Stationed across the southern border of the federation, the 7th's duties are more focused on protection, though exploratory missions into the south eastern void are launched. This area has, throughout it's inhabitation, seen serious trouble with piracy and contact with alien races that diplomacy just failed with, the most recent and horrific being the fleets of chitinous star insects, termed "Kracken".
There has also been skirmishes with almost every power in this region, especially around the resource rich Vulcan cluster, 5 systems that contain numerous planets, moons and asteroid fields rich in the material used and needed by virtually all the powers. The recent discovery of Dilethieum on Hesputeus IV has seen mining companies send expeditions to establish mines, though already piracy upon the first shipments has resulted in the stationing of a squadron of fast cruisers in orbit.

The dreadnought shall be the U.S.S TITANIC NCC 1912, not sure on the name for the constitution, but it's back story is that it has had an unlucky past, involving deaths in construction and the destruction of the bridge in her first engagement among others, am thinking Agamemnon or Dutchman.

Does the ink look okay? I am not sure at the moment.
Also does anyone know of any naming conventions for Romulan ship names?

If you want to have a closer look at Mongoose's transfer sheet offering, I haven't started cutting mine up yet, and I suspect we'll be running into each other sooner of later if we both play 40K and ACTA in Reading

Are you going to the ACTA tourny Eclectic Games are holding?

Yep I am, will be posting pics of my Constitutions and redone Texas class ships soon, can't seem to make my mind up on the list for it :P It does seem there will be a fair few federation players there :P That would be good, must admit I'm not keen on transfers after GW's and trying to get them on my Thousand sons.
Will post pics of my Slaaneshi vessels and my imperial cobras tomorrow.

I got the Metal romulan squadron box months ago, but only just got round to painting them, when I found the romulan squadron box in resin for £10, so got that, so far I have painted the two picturered, the rest are taking a bit more work to get ready due to resin blobs and holes and such, not enough to be a real problem, but enough to be a pain, especially when I don't have tons of time.
The call to arms tournament at eclectic never took place today, no one else turned up, despite a couple of people apparently confirming with the store they would be attending during the week just gone.
EDIT: Not sure wherever or not these guys need highlights, or wherever I should just use the wash/ink now and call them done as they would look rather dark and sneaky.

Did the Star Trek models in this line stick to the pre TNG style/time period?
“For a long time humour was thought to be the most potent antidepressant; recently, though, it was found that the bitter suffering of one's enemies, with the placing of sensible limitations on the success of one's friends, was still more effective.”
