... and here they are; the Moss Troopers:

    From the Bloody Miniatures Website:
"A rapacious gang of brigands, freebooters, broken men, or discharged and destitute soldiers turned to banditry and ambuscades."

Just like the last batch, great faces and easy to paint.

They quite look like 17th century gunslingers.

I love this guy; looks like a duellist.

I imagine this guy is the leader; he's kind of charismatic with his well maintained moustache.

Here they are earning a living.

My final entry of the AHPC campaign was a command stand for King Charles I.

I broke what some seem to consider a cardinal rule of building wargaming units and used figures from different manufacturers here (5 in fact!). The sergeant with the halberd is from Avanpost, the Cuirassier with the standard is from Horcata, King Charles is from Warlord Games, the dismounted Cavalry officer from Bicorne Miniatures and the horses by Front Rank.

The Horcata figure comes with a saddle sculpted to the rider as they were designed for the Front Rank horses but I had to sculpt a saddle for King Charles:

Aside from Charles' large head (seems historically appropriate...) all the figures fit together well enough . The King's standard is from Wargames Designs.

I chose to paint Charles' horse as a dun like Van Dyck's 1637/38 portrait of him as opposed to a grey as in the 1633 portrait in part because the grey is an almost exact replica of other mounts in Van Dyck's other portraits of European nobility so was probably his default portrait steed.

Saddle looks factory and i like the horse as well, nice sturdy buckskin. Not familiar with AHPC but good luck.

Thank you IM. The AHPC is a fun motivator; you set a points target and try to meet it. It is all about getting that lead/plastic mountain whittled down not about quality. Lots of comradery and encouragement.

Wow, really nice work Cod. Love that the inspiration is coming from the real narrative, and historical art!

Another batch of Bloody Miniatures ECW figures done.

    BM002 is The Forlorn Hope:

    BM003 is The Pistoleers:

    BM004 is the Dismounted Troopers (my favourite of the first wave);

I have slight detour into 15mm Ancients ahead but after that it will be back to Bloody Miniatures and the second wave of releases.

... and we're back in the room.

I've added a few units into the Painted Column in the last 6 months.

    First off, I've engaged a new period/scale: 15mm Sassanids:

These are a mix of Corvus Belli (on your right) and Old Glory (the left).

I picked up a very small "army" a few years ago, already paintrd, that was all cavalry. I am in the process of adding infantry, command stands and elephants.

In October I finished another pack of Bloody Miniatures ECW figures:

These are The Squire's Men; game keepers and such.

Warfare Miniatures are not known for their ECW figures, concentrating as they do on the late 17th C-early 18th C, but they do have 9 cavalry models billed as such:

    Great faces and wonderful sculpts.

They were a little time consuming to paint as there is quite a bit to paint on them.

I will flesh out the unit with 3 more models from other manufacturers to make it my customary 12 models.

I've added some more to my 15mm Sassanid project these past couple of months. The army I bought (besides lacking infantry) also didn't any have any command stands. The problem has been righted.

There are 3 levels of Commander in Field of Glory so I made the three stands have different amount of figures to represent that.

I have also added some archers, light horse and two elpephants.

Not much more to add to this army; possibly some skirmishers and/or heavy infantry. Of course, since it is Sassanids, they could always use more horse too.

Still continuing through the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge, I finished 12 Dark Ages archers from Footsore Miniatures.

Also part of a Kickstarter I bought into about a year ago, the group consists of 4 different poses.

    Great faces, and hands.

    Wondefull poses as well.

When I look at this range it is how I imagined the men of Dale in The Hobbit.

These will serve in games of Saga and Lion Rampant.

Re: Codsticker's Historicals: Fun With Plastic!(and now metal)

My final entry in this past winter's AHPC was a group of 8 Anglo-Saxon Ceorls:

These are made from Victrix Miniatures Anglo/Danes and Dark Ages Archers sets.

The weapons are a bit fragile; I broke two spears and the sword of the warrior below. You can see the seam where I had to mend it (I should have just replaced the whole arm but I was just about finished painting him when I dropped him).

I used the bodies from the Archers and added helmeted heads and arms/weapons from the Anglo/Dane kit.

I tried to use as few of the padded torsos as possible as most would not have been able to afford armour.

These would count as a unit of warriors in Saga or, with the addition of 4 more bodies, men at arms for Lion Rampant.
