Among the galaxy's few surviving squats, the legend persists of a wondrous kingdom on ancient Terra. It was a place where the engines were loud, the beards were long, the ammunition was cheap, and hydrocarbon fuels sprung out of the ground like water. This kingdom was called... Texas. This is the story of a band of "Texan" mercenaries hired by House Orlock to protect their interests in the Underhive.

A few years ago, I picked up some of Olley's Armies' Texan Scrunts with the intention of making a Necromunda gang out of them. I painted about half of them, and half-completed another few. Here I am to show off the ones I finished and hopefully motivate myself to finish the rest. Sadly, I haven't actually played a game of Necromunda in more than five years, and I don't really know anyone who's interested in playing, so these guys will probably just end up languishing in a box, but I enjoy painting for its own sake as long as I take my time and don't rush myself. Without further ado, on to the photos!

This is the first one I painted. It's not gonna win any awards, but I'm happy with him. I went for a sky-earth effect on the sunglasses, because I think it looks cooler than gem sunglasses. I'm not good enough to get a really smooth transition on glasses this small, which is a shame, but I think it looks fine. OK, there shouldn't really be a horizon in the Underhive; I cite the rule-of-cool in my defense.

Another green one. Don't worry: they're not all green: it's just one of my favorite colors to paint.

OK, I'm already straying from the premise. Sue me. This guy is not a Texan, but he is a Bob Olley sculpt. The Texan minis have plenty of pistols, but no actual melee weapons. That's not going to fly, even for an "Orlock" gang, so I added this fellow. I'm pretty proud of the base; the purple stuff is supposed to be some kind of Underhive fungus. The model is from Fantastic Miniatures, which is a guy who commissioned some sculpts from Olley and sells them on Ebay. He also offers a few exo-armor figures, which are pretty cool. He's a great guy, and he even threw in some bonus extras with my order, which is a nice gesture that you don't see too often these days.

OK, that's it for today. I'll be back tomorrow with some more photos.
