Re: WW2 Air Combat in 1/48 scale

    Thank you.
Clear lacquer arrived but the weather was bad so I went to work on the Beaufighter I bought recently. There is an alarming number of parts left over, some intentionally and some not, so hopefully that doesn’t affect the final result too badly. Glue is still wet in this photo, I will clean up mold lines and gaps later. Thanks for looking!

Re: WW2 Air Combat in 1/48 scale

I’ve been running out of display space for the planes so I went searching Amazon for a solution and found some 4” flying bases made by Litko which is the same guy who made the dials I use on the gaming bases. Got 4 initially and I wish the acrylic rod was thicker but they seem to be doing the job for now (the P40 broke off at some point but no damage).

Edit- acquired some 2” and 3” bases from Litko and made some out of warhammer bases-

I like the layered effect and it gives me significantly more space.

*admin note- I went though all the aircraft cards and updated them or made new ones to more accurately represent these particular variants. If anyone is interested in how I do all that please let me know.

Great pics IM. I was hoping the menu would be from the '40's though. No messing (hurhurhur) around though- only 45 minutes for dinner. Eat and GTFO.

Yes, the problem with the museum ships that served through the Cold War is the updates are still in place. No AA guns, no float planes or catapults etc. Heres a couple more pics-

First Soviet aircraft/Russian produced model in my collection, so I will try to give an accurate impression if anyone is interested. Comments and questions are encouraged.

Re: WW2 Air Combat in 1/48 scale

Now that you mention it- you don't see many people modelling/gaming with Russian aircraft for WW2. I guess that is because aircraft played a much bigger role in western Europe?

I have a soft spot for the La 5, I think it’s because I have a random WW2 book with them illustrated in it!

Just my opinion- The Red Air Force was total garbage when the Germans invaded, which produced outrageous kills for the Luftwaffe, like multiple aces with 200+ victories. Eventually lend lease and the Russians' own industry provided fighter aircraft capable of surviving more than one battle.

Sprayed, washed, sprayed again. Grey outlined by hand, late war camo added to leading wing edges, glass/props/wheels blacked out. Next I’ll clean up the blacked out areas, paint the glass, props and landing gear, then transfers.

Really nice end result! Is she missing a small aerial under the cockpit though? Doesn’t really matter, still solid work.

Finally made it out to Planes of Fame in Chino- https://planesoffame.org/visit/admis...and-directions

Going to post an initial batch of photos, if you guys like them Ill put up more. If you want a plane from their website Ill see if I took pics of it. And of course there are some models. They actually have a model room on site with a million boxes, a huge workstation and the same supplies youd see in a well stocked hobby shop.
