Thread: My own DIY mini Space Hulk

Lightbulb My own DIY mini Space Hulk

    Greetings and hallucinations all.

I thought I would try and make my own Space Hulk game (would that I could afford to purchase the actual game itself, but when it is selling on eBay for well over $300US, that's just a little more than my non-existent game budget allows.) Since I have a small apartment and a small area in which I can play, I thought that I would make it in 15mm scale and create all of the minis, tokens, etc., as tokens. Here I have set up the Suicide Mission from the Sin of Damnation Campaign.

Let me know what you think about it.

I hope everyone will forgive the crappy quality of the photos, but it was the only camera I had to work with.

Looks good. I was considering doing this myself due to space issues. For 15mm, you could use these guys as terminators http://www.brigademodels.co.uk/15mmS.../SF15-005.html and Khurasan Space Deamons (website down for a few days currently) as genestealers. Alternatively, you could go 6mm and use these as terminators http://www.onslaughtmini.com/85-sist...pre-order.html and these as genestealers http://www.onslaughtmini.com/29-terr...minations.html

Interesting idea Samsonov. But I wanted to make this all with "homemade" materials. Everything I have (and I made quite a few extra pieces the way I did it) fits into a small fishing tackle box, so it makes it quite portable and lightweight and no worries about breaking the minis.

Maybe if you use lego and then pait soem micro figs... or just use lego pieces for each character, door or effect?

Maybe it's just me, but I kind of like the "token/counter" feel of what I made. I grew up playing AH games back in the '70s like Squad Leader and such, so this is the way I wanted to do it. Now I may go the lego route for my Blood Bowl game that I did instead of the paper cubes that I am using now.

A nice source for paper counters (although probably too small for 15mm) is vassal. Put "40k vassal icons" into google and you'll see what comes up.

What do you use for the tiles? have you tried to use any metal on them so you can build a magnetic board?

I used sticky backed foam sheets for the tiles. A whole lot easier to cut and they stay where they are placed. I then put clear contact paper over them and trimmed that up to keep the tiles nice. I started to use mat board (the kind for putting around pictures) for the counters, but I was going through X-acto blades like crazy. So I then went to the sticky-backed foam sheets for those as well. Now when I do my full size set, I will be using mat board for all the counters and such, but still using foam for the tiles.

Get yourself a cheap guilotine, and not only will you save blades, you'll be a lot safer and cut straighter.
