Anyone else tried it?

I keep playing it as a Warhammer, while my boardgaming opponent plays it as the board game it is: it's vital to get the initiative and move your discs onto others so they're stuck for the turn.
That kinda makes the Warhammer thing a theme instead of a essential game element, so I'm trying to tweak the rules to play it more like the miniatures battle, which in effect would give me a very portable minis game to haul along anywhere.
