    The Lost and the Discounted

    The Lost and the Discounted

A Plog dedicated to maintain a semblance of hobby activity, because I have a kid now and he is way time consuming and stuff. So I need to paint stuff quicker than I'd like or I will never get anything done.
I try and be cheap, but prior to fatherhood I did invest in a few kickstarters . . .

if your looking to do stuff quickly and get good results i would sugest giving the army painter dips a look http://www.thearmypainter.com/ . It gives good solid table top standard results at a very minimal time out lay. while a tin of the dark tone quickshade dip looks at first glance expensive (25-20 pounds depending where you get it from) it will last ages, I've painted about 200 boltaction figures now with one tin and there's still loads left over.

If your ok with doing something in a primary colour like iron warriors for example a can of sliver primer and a few bits baes coated then a dip and your done and they look good too.

theres lots of examples of stuff on the website including a marine company a gaming group did http://www.thearmypainter.com/galler...Company&page=1 that was a very basic job but shows what sort of results you can get with no effort whats so ever.

Here's a blog from a guy who did a iron hands army using the army painter dip just so you can see what sort of results you can get.

Williamsond: Thanks. I am a big fan of using washes but haven't tried the dip yet. Those Iron Wariors look pretty sweet though.
Disposable Hero: Thanks. Sadly I lost the hair a long time before this chap arrived . . . I mean, I'm not bald, I shave my head.
Yes, that will fool them . . .

Anyway, lets see if I can give a few teaser pictures while I get my stuff together:

    Background

Welcome to Hive Strecore. Lurking far from Lord Gerontius Helmawr's watchful eye Hive Strecore has always attracted Necromunda’s more seedy inhabitants (which is saying something). The Hive was once renowned for its production of Resserectium™, a cellular regeneration elixir used by those in the upper hives to ward off the effects of aging. However, following a catastrophic explosion at the main production facility the hive was literally split in two. Following this, the hive has earned a reputation for being especially dangerous, with ever increasing hordes of mutants, rampaging mobz of Orks emerging from the underhive, and even whispers of the dead rising from their graves.

Various gangs battle out across this landscape, but none were more valiant than the magnificent Spider and his Delaque followers. These brave warriors almost fought off an attack by escaped criminals intent of blowing up their gambling den, nearly bested a rampaging hoard of orks, and briefly braved the zombie infested tower at the center of the Hive (I lost that game thanks to some stupid Van Saar with their invincible ex-Juve).

However, during these epic campaigns Spider's leadership was overthrown and, following an attack on a Guilder's caravan, the gang was outlawed, renaming themselves 'The Darkness'. They disappearing into the underhive, but rumours persisted of alliances with the dreaded zombie master, and a strange quest for an unholy artefact with the power to bring down even the most noble of souls.

Meanwhile, above the planet, a cloaked vessel began its descent, intent on Hive Strecore and the secrets within . . .

    Marshaling the Horde

So, as our hero (and I use the word loosely) begins his descent the first of his minions begin to stir deep in the Underhive. The former workers, their lives ruined by the terrible aftermath of the explosion, are easy to bend to the ways of Chaos. Already something is stirring in the dark, calling them to it . . .

    Dark Vengeance cultists:

I paint for a decent tabletop rather than display, but I like to do the best I can.

Still learning to take photos too.

Here and there is a conversion or two; I like to vary the unit a little, but there is a point one just gives up . . .

    Scavvies

In Necromunda Scavvies are the bottom of the barrel underhive dwellers. Inbred, rife with mutation and disease, and not adverse to a spot of cannibalism, a bounty is offered on Scavvies but it rarely does much to keep their numbers in check. If a Chaos demagogue wants to recruit an army the Scavvies offer a valuable and disposable resource.

Below are some of the members of my current Scavvy gang, The Wyatt Family (counts as cultists):

Some of these are old Necromunda models, some are conversions. They're not my best work, but numbers is more important (and who wants to spend time producing a beautiful Scavvy?)

The gentleman on the far left is responsible for meal time (hence the shovel and bag of 'ingredients'). If he can't find enough for dinner then he ends up in the cooking pot . . .

The rather short chap on the left is already the bane of my Necromunda league. Despite being armed with only a club and a knife he has bludgeoned gang leaders and heavies alike into unconsciousness.

    Mutants

Sadly they aren't as pretty as the X-men:

'I am tired of these jokes about my giant hand. The first such incidence occurred in 1956 when-'

A couple of classic Scavvies. I love these models, even if some of them are perhaps not the greatest sculpts of all time . . .

Eyestalks. Necromunda's stupidest mutation. Although most of these guys have never appeared in my Scavvy gang I figured I'd convert one of each type of mutant, just in case.

Brothers Harper and Rowan. I love these guys despite their stupidly tiny legs. I might use these as heavy stubbers, but I suspect they won't see the table much for 40K.

Anybody know a decent spray paint that matches Khorne Red?

you could try the army painter range they may have something close, they colour match their sparys to the paint range so you could pick up a few of their reds and see if anything matches before shelling out for expensive sprays.

Re: The Lost and the Discounted

    Thanks. I'll look into that.

    Leaders

Pappa Bray (left) leads the Wyatt family, supported by his underling Bo (who doesn't actually have static grass growing up his skirt).
These two act as Champions for the units of cultists. They even have close combat weapons, auto pistols, and shotguns (at least I assume those are shotguns)

Two troops choices done. All I need is an HQ . . .

Love the models and the painting. I'm getting my Cultists painted at the moment and your pics are definitely a good inspiration and source of motivation. I've done some minor conversions myself but yours are much better. Keep up the good work !

Re: The Lost and the Discounted

Cheers Omnix. I do love painting cultists and hordes of dirty troops (which might be a hint of something coming soon). Its the centerpiece models I struggle with, which is why I don't have an update on my HQ yet; the fiend is taking longer than I thought (plus my son keeps demanding my time and attention; what's up with that? I knew I should have gotten another ferret instead . . .)

Anyway, only a small update. I just got my daemons back from a mate whose had them on loan for . . . seven years I think?
They are all on square bases and many will need a touch up (some will need to be stripped), but its good to know the forces in the warp are gathering in support of my cause.

    Dark Apostle Balor

The shadowy figure behind the recent scavvy uprisings and other criminal activity in Hive Strecore, Balor claims to be an envoy from the stars, bent on uniting all peoples behind the true gods of Chaos. An all-seeing eye pulses in his forehead, scrutinising his recent converts. In his hand he grasp an Accursed Crozius that radiates an almost tangible aura of corruption.

. . . Oh, and he also has a topknot, because no true follower of Chaos can ever expect to lead an uprising without such a classy fashion accessory.

(Apologies for the slightly fuzzy picture. I had to snap it before work. Plus why does he have grass on his face? Damn that stuff!)

One HQ, two troops choices. Next step is to drag the army up to 500 points . . .

Wonderful mix'n'match of parts, manufacturers and eras of modelling. The paint-scheme makes it all come together as a cohesive force, even if they're all fairly individual!

Thanks unwanted. I’d like to say the model selection was a carefully laid out plan, but the truth is I just found a bunch of old Scavvies whilst moving house.
Another picture of Deacon Balor below. Not 100% happy with him, but we must press on.

Re: The Lost and the Discounted

    Stowman

Stowman was a particularly large and vicious scavvy, obsessed by violence and rather too quick to resort to cannibalism for some of his family’s liking. Stowman always resented outsiders, and was thrown in a rage on hearing of a mysterious preacher recently arrived in the underhive.

Stowman had intended to kill and consume the interloper. Instead, upon meeting the Deacon Balor, he found himself compelled to bend his knee and abase himself before his new master. Stowman refused to leave his leader’s side, claiming he could feel power radiating from the preacher. Indeed, over the following days Stowman began to change, his muscles swelling with blood, bone plates erupting from his back, and a fanged tail bursting from his spine, even as what was left of his mind withered . . . .

This chap was actually painted by my wife several years ago. I touched up the chipped paint but have left him pretty much as is. Mr Stowman is now Chaos Spawn number one . . .
