I have also been painting wood elves like crazy as off to a 2 tourney tomorrow, which I used sisters of avelorn with flaming bows for my way watchers. Will have to get some pics up on my plog afterwards so you can compare. Mine are winter themed though, so total opposite to yours.

I think that when we get around to expanding the army, we'll add at least one more unit of gladeguard to start with, expand the unit of dryads (possibly add a branchwraith), and add a unit of warhawk riders. For the warhawk riders we were considering of putting them on Terradons, in order to link the 2 armies together even more visually.

My only foray into the Wood Elves was getting a Wood Elf battalion put together for my wife. She wanted them to be like 'fairies', so I had to add tiny translucent wings to them. They actually came out really nice and in a pink and magenta color scheme, they certainly do look the ladies army!

An update on this one! I finished the army a few months ago, entered a 9th age tournament (36 people, pretty decently sized, and a lot of pretty armies), and won Best Painted Army (player's choice)!

So here's the force in full:


Treekin - the kurnous hunters were absolutely perfect for this, and drycha represents a treekin character, available in the 9th age armybook

Wild Riders - Sadly I didn't have enough fire bits left over to give the whole unit flaming antlers, but I think this looks good as well. I converted the unit musician into a woman because #feminism.





Treeman - the censer is from the plague furnace bitz I had remaining after building a screaming bell.

Dryads -This unit was made with the Age of Sigmar tree revenants, for some extra variety with the original dryad models (see further below). They're a skirmish unit, and the dryad character was fielded with the Toxic spores magic item, that allowed her and her unit to fire a short ranged weapon, which I reinterpreted with this unit as them throwing fireballs instead of poisonous fruit.





A ranked unit of dryad - The unit champion has burst open and fire is burning from within her torso.

Archers - the flaming bows of the sisters of Avelorn kit were a blessing. Otherwise they would just have had regular bows and that doesn't really fit with the army theme. The regular ornamental top of the unit banner is replaced by a brazier I got from.. somewhere. The archer character was the first testmodel for the army, to try and figure out colors, and she ran around the battlefield with her magic bow.

After not having played 9th for a year since another tournament march or april last year, I added a unit of glade riders to the army to fill up my list to 4.5K for a nearby Grand Tournament. Had loads of fun getting to play some games again.

GW doesn't sell the plastic glade riders anymore so these are made out of dark elf dark riders, some shadow warrior/sisters of avelorn bits (3 of the 5 cloaks for example, though they look similar enough to the dark rider cloaks that the difference doesn't stand out much), glade guard and wild riders bits, and even a wandering set of empire spearman arms. I'm pleased with the coherent result.
