The City of Silence, Darth Ale'c Death PLOG

With Age of Sigmar out, I finally took the plunge into making that Vampire Counts army I always wanted. The models have fascinated me since 6th, but I could never justify adding yet another army to the collection. Vlad almost tipped me over when he got his remake, but it was Nagash that sealed the deal. I can't not paint that giant heap of plastic crack. So with that, I needed an army for him to stomp around with, and so was born the City of Silence. I'm not the greatest painter around (and some of these PLOGs can give anyone an inferiority complex), but I'm proud of what I've achieved with these guys so far!

Starting off with the lovely Isabella Von Carstein, my most recent character.

And since we have to have some skeletons, here's the first ten.

They've all had some sort of posing conversion done to them. Since they don't need to rank up, I want them all to be a little bit unique.

Couldn't decide whether or not I wanted the glowing eyes effect, so I've left it a bit unfished for now...

Maybe I'll add a bit of my fluff in a later post :P

Really nice job on these skeletons and isabella looks superb with your paintjob! I must say, I really like the skeletons on round bases, they look so much better imho than on square!

Thank you very much! If you think skeletons on rounds look good, just wait until you see my converted Black Knights on ovals

Thank you! I'm trying to convert every model in the army to some extent, except for the named character models.

Thanks! They aren't as good for conversion work as the old ones, but are much better sculpts otherwise.

Thanks! Purple baroque armour is all a man really needs in life.

As a celebration for a PLOG now launched, here's Mannfred! He's much larger than any of my other Von Carsteins, but i guess them's the breaks when he's the only mounted model. Another solid Von Carstein model, if much less iconic than the other three. I also may not be entirely done with him to my satisfaction. I just now realise that I forgot to highlight his gloves

A great start to your log, like the posing on the skellies, and the painting is very nice. Might want to wash or otherwise do something to the free-hand on the banner, as it seems a little disjointed at the moment, and I think it would look great if you pulled it together somehow?

Thank you very much! I don't have much banner-painting experience, so I'm really just trying stuff out here. Now that I know what I want on their banner, I'll probably redo it once I have some more stuff painted.

Thanks! I do intend to put snow on them as well, so they aren't quite done.

I'll continue to post up the stuff I have already painted. In my defence, all of this was started early september. Had I known about the tale of AoS painters, I would have joined it then :P

Next up are my Spirit Hosts. I promised myself to convert every model in my army, but these guys were just so great. Such a nice triplet. And a huuuuge step up from the old spirit hosts. I'm converting the next set though. I also went for green rather than blue. ethereal flames were always green in my mind, so these guys had to go green!

Now that I see it, I should probably add some green wash to the skeletons to show off that eery green glow...

Looking great so far! I know a lot of people realizing army projects due to AoS' lower entry level. Hell I've got 3 armies already for AoS!

It's definitely good to not need 100+ core models just to get a decent army. And I can finally start adding all those monsters that I've always wanted, without them being utterly terrible.

Here's a little teaser for the Black Knights.

I've got a lot of these guys made, and a lot of fiddly greenstuffing left to do on them!

    Undead Dragon Princes?

    I like it a lot.

And the Spirit Hosts turned out marvelously, ectoplasmic green FTW

Thanks! I'm rather pleased with how the black knights turned out actually. The kits aren't super compatible, but it didn't take a lot of work to get these guys, compared to some of my conversions.

Still more fiddly greenstuffing, but now the gang's all together. I hope they are any good in combat, as I haven't actually tried them yet! Sorry about the quality of the picture, I didn't see how bad it was until I posted it :P

Bonus points if anyone knows where icon is from

Amazing plog! Keep up the good work.

The kit bashing on the black knights is seamless, I especially love the Thulsa Doom banner top.

Looking impressive, a fearsome prospect for most units, I'm sure!

Thanks! One internet cookie for you for solving the riddle of plastic. The kitbashing isn't quite as seemless as it appears, but that's why I have a very large roll of greenstuff.

I hope so. It would be bad if they were all bark and no bite!

Thank you. It's surprisingly easy, if you've got a tiny little brush. Base Rakarth Earth, Agrax wash, Rakarth highligh, Rotting flesh highlight. All the real painters mix colours and layer extensively, but ain't nobody got time fo' dat.

No update today, as yesterday I held my first Game Day at the local club. 11 40k players and 4 AoS players was enough to keep me occupied :P

Thanks. I feel like they really add something compared to the old "random battlefield" bases that we usually see.

It seems that after my vacation to Rome, the PLOG has slipped to the second page. Oh the horrors! I guess I'll have to fix that by posting some dudes. Here's the first 10 of my Grave Guard. Armed, armoured and significantly better than skeletons in close combat!

My second freehand banner. I'm quite pleased with this one. The posing on the Senechal could be better though, I didn't realise just how tall that sword was!

Batch number two! Every grave guard has been given a new weapon and a new-ish pose.

You can see the "flame" pattern on their skirts in this one. I wanted a little something that was cool, but not too distracting.

If the weather lets up, next time I might even show some paint on the black knights!
