    Fireslayers & Ur-Gold

Background, AOS hate and aesthetics aside, how is "Ur-Gold" pronounced?

I think the intention would be "Your-Gold" (I understand that UR is how the youths* now spell your), but I keep reading it as "Err-Gold", which sounds like an unsure response to a question about what gold medals are made of**.

Opinions please to put my simple mind to rest***.

    * Yes I am old enough to refer to the youths.

** Yes i know that gold medals contain very little gold (usually only a surface coating) but it's the only relevant question I could think of.

*** No I don't know why this is paying on my mind, but it is.

I'm going with urrr or errr I guess sound the same' as in "urgent". Not the Y sound at the beginning. But really, I guess we will find out once the first audio drama with duardin gets published

Ur is a common prefix in germanic languages. It's pronounced like the beginning of "urgent", as veternnoob said.

In case you didn't know, it typically refers to an ancient or original form of something. The most famous is probably the city of Ur, one of the oldest city-states we know of.

I pronounce it as "yer", like slang for "your". But that's just because I think it's funny that the ones who want "yer gold" also cost so much real life money. So they'll end up getting yer gold.

This probably seems like the intended pronunciation.

    Re: Fireslayers & Ur-Gold

It's pronounced err. It means a proto version of something, or first, as mentioned. So Ur-Gold is the original gold or the first gold. Then we have Grimnir, the guy they follow. He was an Ancestor God, one of the first Dwarves; an Ur-Dwarf if you like. He was shattered into pieces following a battle in the new Mortal Realms. Now we have these slayers who will do basically any depraved act to try and acquire Ur-Gold. Ur-Gold is Grimnir.
