Blood Bowl Team made out of a single box?

If I wanted to convert a blood bowl team out of a single box of warhammer models which teams do you think would be possible to create?

Elves are probably a good place to start, as are Orks. Ignore the AoS stuff (unless you like the look of the Black Orks for players) and focus on the Ork boxed set and you should have plenty of fodder for conversions.

Re: Blood Bowl Team made out of a single box?

    It would be challenging.

The non-human teams tend to feature a mix of players inspired by actual tabletop units (Dark Elves have Witch Elves, Dwarfs have Slayers, Skaven have Stormvermin) or feature a range of races/units (Undead: Mummies, ghouls, Skeletons, Zombie; Orks: Goblins, Trolls, Black Orcs). Therefore in one sense humans might be the best choice. However there aren't any really human units that look very blood bowl-esk. Chaos Marauders could make an OK Norse team. You could do an all beastmen chaos team, or all skink lizardman team, but you might struggle to win games.

I suppose orcs or Dwarves might be OK choices if you are happy not to use a couple of player types, but honestly I'd suggest either picking up a few extra players on ebay or whatever, or having a look at some of the fantasy football players out there.

Or (a bit left field) Ogres. One unit of basic ogres would give more players than you need, and there are a few gnoblars to act as goblins.

    EDIT:

Hmm ok, it's just my local store is planning on having a Blood Bowl tournament like thing the only catch is you need to buy the teams new, not sure what's going to happen with GW and releasing of Blood Bowl teams though, so I was under the impression you basically had to convert them from existing models, I just don't have a lot of money to splash about though.

In that case I'd suggest Norse (chaos marauders) or Ogres (ogres). Orcs might work too.

Do you think Goblins could be done?

Perhaps - but it would be hard to use just the basic goblin plastics (mono pose or multipart plastics). Best bet would probably be to combine the goblin multi part plastics with some night goblin squig herders or fanatics and buy a troll. The mono pose night goblins don't really have any customisability at all.

Re: Blood Bowl Team made out of a single box?

The best 'old' trick was to get some skinks and some saurus and wham, lizard team. If you have a friend half a box each. Add the big guy at a later date.

    Is a solid team too.

Otherwise High Elves are dull enough. Anything can be a pro elf team. Human militia..., oh. Norse tricky to get the str 4 and the yeti out of a box of thugs... Two box approach again could get you beastmen and chaos warriors for a chaos team. Is a difficult team to play in a league from scratch (but you are better off without the big guy luckily enough).

Could use a Kroot box to make a slann team?

The need for a big guy for many teams makes a single purchase tricky.

For reference the team list and stuff needed assuming players in different positions that are similar can be converted/marked.

    Amazon Teams
All the players look similar, but you need a box that gives you enough women in GW's white, male, world...

    Chaos Dwarf Teams
    Good luck
    1 Minotaur (Not needed)
    2 Bull Centaurs
    6 Dwarves
    Hobgoblins

    Chaos Pact Teams
    1 Minotaur
    1 Ogre
    1 Troll
    1 Dark Elf
    1 Goblin
    1 Skaven

    Chaos Teams
    1 Minotaur (Not needed)
    4 Chaos warriors
    Beastmen/thugs/whatever

    Dark Elf Teams
    2 witch elves
0-2 assassains (Many players don't take any)
    Evil Elves

    Dwarf Teams
    Deathroller (not needed)
    2 Trollslayers
    Dwarves

    Elf Teams
    Elves

    Goblin Teams
    2 trolls
4 secret weapons (chainsaw, pogo, bombs and ball and chain - all can be kit bashed)
    Goblins

    Halfling Teams
    2 Treemen
Halflings (no different positions but I don't know if they are even sold any more!)

    High Elf Teams
    Elves

    Human Teams
    1 Ogre
    Humans

    Khemri Teams
    4 mummies/tomb guard
    Skeletons

    Lizardmen Teams
    1 kroxigor
    6 Saurus
    Skinks

    Necromantic Teams
    2 Flesh golems
    2 Werewolves
    2 Ghouls
    2 wights
    Zombies

    Norse Teams
    1 Yeti/Snow troll
2 str 4 vaguely were somethings
    Humans with few clothes

    Nurgle Teams
    Beast of Nurgle
    4 Nugle warriors
    4 beastmen
    Rotting humans

    Ogre Teams
    6 ogres
    Gnoblinars/snotlings

    Orc Teams

    Skaven Teams
    1 rat Ogre (not needed)
    4 gutter runners
    Skaven

    Slann Teams
    1 kroxigor
    Frogs/ Kroot

    Undead Teams
    2 mummies/tomb guard
    2 Wights
    4 Ghouls

    Underworld Teams
    1 troll
    6 Skaven
    Goblins

    Vampire Teams
    6 Vampires (need about 4)
Thralls (generally fair skinned so could use humans, elves, etc)

    Wood Elf Teams
    1 Treeman (not needed)
Wood Elves (all you need is hair sculpting skills...)

There are many ways to rank teams. Online play at Fumbll for teams under 1400 TV (so a short league) has win stats of...

    Amazon 58.58
    Undead 56.69
    Lizardmen 56.4
    Dwarf 55.39
    Skaven 54.05
    Norse 53.98
    Chaos Dwarf 53.38
    Wood Elf 52.96
    Necromantic 52.36
    Orc 52.25
    Khemri 51.39
    Elf 49.84
    Human 49.4
    High Elf 49.26
    Dark Elf 48.29
    Slann 45.5
    Chaos 45.05
    Chaos Pact 44.96
    Underworld 42.98
    Nurgle 42.18
    Vampire 37.76
    Goblin 30.44
    Ogre 30.11
    Halfling 27.46

It changes depending on how matches are fixed and what the TV level is... (Amazons for example all die in games with TV 2000 bash teams...)

Re: Blood Bowl Team made out of a single box?

Tricky nowadays. I was able to make a whole Skaven team from the Gutter Runner box (including a 'rat king' as a rat ogre, and adding a couple of spawn pieces for mutations). Wood Elves, the old archer box was pretty good, although you might need to add 2 wardancers. Dwarves might be doable with that Fyreslayer set. Now we have AoS, the models in a single box just aren't right for Old World style BB. Unless you want to use on of those Start Collecting boxes, you'll just have to be creative and judicious with pieces from your bits box.
