    Re: Loving the Alien

I've recently acquired these chaps (+small army) as a surprise for my son as he loves Necrons

I've started 'sprucing' them up a bit by putting a glow in their guts/ribs but was toying with trying out some 'crackle' paints on them, I have zero experience using these so I have two questions for the Warseer community - what brand should I use and what colour (thinking off-white but open to suggestions)?

    some more close ups

    One of the troops

I managed to pick up some Agrellan Earth technical paint today from the 'local' GW store so hopefully I can experiment with crackle paint effects at the weekend here's hoping it works

For crackle effects you might want to try Vallejo - they have crackle glaze/medium that you add to your paint. Haven't tried it myself but I do use their gloss medium and a few others to add to my paints. I usually just get mediums through eBay [I prefer buying paint in store if its a new colour so I can see what I'm getting!]. You could add some washes to give the models more depth - Nihilakh Oxide and Typhus Corrosion are both good for the weathered look.

    nitromors,

I have done some crackle/lightening effect on some Tau Stealth Suites (you can see them in my Tau PLOG on page 3)...I simply painted the lightening effect with the darker colour and then did a zigzag of a blend inside the first and then a white line in the center is a roughly similar pattern, not minding if I went over the edge of the first dark colour.

    Cheers,

Lucky you being done with putting together the Necrons then. These lighter ones in the front - are those resin minis?

They look well put together. Now take on the painting challenge and keep them from remaining grey.

You mean you don't like the current scheme?

    Re: Loving the Alien

Well as mentioned in my Imperials thread Real Life and the Hobby Butterfly have taken their toll however some progress has been made...

This is my Archon's Tantalus WIP or the 'Bling-wing' as it has come to be known! Lots n lots more to do but you can get the general idea, the Archon will be sitting on a Throne on the rear platform (hence the large steel pin!)

...and the man himself 'The Erlking' my Archon - you may notice he matches the standing version in the pics above

...and this is my meager attempt at some background fluff...

Taun'va's body cried with the pain of a thousand wounds as he was cast upon the cold stone floor a broken heap.
"So, you are Tau" the voice echoed from the darkness of the dimly lit chamber the words more of a statement than a question.
"Tell me of this Greater Good child, tell me of your Ethereals..." the voice laced with silky malevolence oozed from the darkness.
"I will tell you creatures nothing... you'd never understand, I would rather die than betray my masters" Taun'va's voice rang heavy with defiance the pain from the effort costing him dearly.
"Die! Die? Oh no my little dove we will have far more from you than death."

    - Last words voluntarily spoken by Shas'el Vior'la Taun'va Mont'yr, Fourth Sphere.

"You ask of the Erlking? The Goblin King? Lord of the Hunt? He's the bogeyman come to catch you. Best beware my darlings lest your terror become my wine."

    - Asdrubael Vect, Supreme Lord of the Kabal of the Black Heart

    nitromors,

I don't know if you still have your original images, but you can always edit your old post and replace the dead photobucket link with your new host's image. Something worth fixing if you can, makes it so the first image a user sees is an updated PLOG...some folks might skip looking further than the first couple of posts, which would be a shame.

    Just a thought,

Neat stuff! The skull helms are a really cool look that gives them a Donnie Darko rabbit vibe.
