Pulp Alley Table Project: Jungle, Urban, Airstrip

So I have returned briefly to my Pulp Alley tables. You may remember the city table with the canal:

One of the things we wanted to be able to do was to use the table without the canal; it has a tendency to funnel lay over the bridge. With that in mind when I built the table a couple of years ago I kept the foam I had cut out and bought some Sarissa Precision MDF track and a signal.

To raise it a bit I laid down some thin cork sheet and blended it into the foam with spackle.

The gravel around the tracks is a miox of small and medium Woodland Scenics Ballast in brown and buff.

I put a layer of WS 2mm static grass down, followed by a blend of Peco Scenes 4mm Spring and 6mm Summer grass.

The shrubs are some home made bushes using static grass and Scenic Express SuperLeaf green foliage as well as WS light green and medium green clump foliage.


The hedges were made for the canal; I think a fence is more appropriate for the railroad so that is in the future.

I will try to remember to get a pixpls with a mini but I can tell you the tracks are a little over-sized for 28mm figures; 37mm across the rails. I am not sure how they match up with O gauge railway.

I finished up a picket fence so kids don't run out onto the tracks and gum everything up.

The fencing is from Rubicon Models:

You get 4 sprues like the one below in the box.

Each section of fence is 10,5 cm long so it adds up to quite a bit per box.
I wanted a faded white wash look but you could get really good results with a simple grey primer and white dry brush.

We played a game of Pulp Alley on the table with the new fence yesterday.

2 separate leagues after three different goals. Not too much terrain but a lot of NPC's that we had to engage with.

Local young thugs hanging out:

The Yellow Peril question a suspicious loiterer:

Who panics and bolts for it, only to be tackled by Ping:

The Rodio league attempts to interact with the locals:

These two individuals attract the attention of the Mandalorians (yes, its a pulp game...)

Things get spicy when another gang unexpectedly makes an appearance, three of them surrounding a Mandalorian (lower left hand corner). With the local police arriving, the Mandalorians are forced to subdue the man in the blue suit, grabbing a valuable piece of tech (between the two vehicles in the foreground).

Having already acquired 2 of the plot points, the Yellow Peril are foiled in their attempt to secure a third: they have been mislead and stack of crates proves to be a red herring.



With two of the gangs having succeeded in their goals the game came to a close. Episode two will play out perhaps as early as next week.

Yeah there are lots out there. In fact I ordered a wall with a moon arch from Oshiro Model Terrain for another pulp table inspired by Macau. This table isn't specifically an American China Town; it just turned out that way for this scenario.

We got the jungle table out last night for game 2 of our Pulp Alley campaign however, I forgot my camera and thought I had left my phone at home. Turns out I had lost it in the truck. The point of this post however is a Sarissa Precision kit I put together for the game: their Low Planked-Style Village Hut.

I added some dried grass material I picked up from Michael's, I cannot remember what it is called but it is an Ashland product.

Instead of grass thatch or planks for the roof I wanted a tiki hut like effect, as if the roofing was made from broad leaf plants like a banana plant.

It turned out OK but I think If I am going to do it again I have to refine it a little. The product is a difficult to glue down and needs to be clamped down for a while to lay flat.

Its a bit mess so I think I would make lateral strips of it in shorter lengths and lay them in rows. It would probably look more realistic.
