Re: Despoiler's log of a little bit of everything

Had a busy day painting. I managed to complete another two of the megabosses; Blacm Dragon Kallameet and the Old Iron King.

    First Kallameet

    The Old Iron King

The old iron king was a difficult one to keep interesting when painting, as other than his firey insides he is essentially just black. To combat this I attempted to do a underglow effect from the lava around him, to reduce the amount of black on the model.

(A quick note for those who haven't played dark souls or aren't familiar with the lore.

The Old Iron King built a mighty keep on top of a volcano. Only he built it from solid iron and the weight of whole keep is now causing it to sink into the lava.

You fight the king in an arena at the centre of the keep, which is now mostly a giant pool of lava in which the king now lives and fights).

Next up is the four kings.

    Until then...

Well, the models themselves are nice looking and the plastic used is good quality and holds detail well. (Although the hands ln the gaping dragon are abit washed out and feel flat detail wise compared with the rest of tge model.

There is a bit of cleaning to do but its minimal. The only one that I had trouble with was actually the gaping dragon above. I had to do abit of work shaving the pieces so they fit well. Don't get me wrong they fit but there were gaps. Also there are small gaps in the pre assembled parts were the pieces aren't completely flush but nothing abit of putty/greenstuff wouldn't sort.

The mega bosses are designed to be modular models (although I glued mine), and the gaps are fine for those who aren't bothered by painting and just want to play the game.

The megaboss models are all pretty big, so for use in wargaming as mounts or just as big monsters they would be acceptable.

Having said this, they are expensive and not all of them will be coming to retail anymore (I believe four kings, the guardian dragon and the old iron king aren't seeing general release).
    Thanks for the reply.

The old iron king needs a portal on his base?

For use in the DS game? No like I said he is waist deep in lava. Which is why he has no legs modeled. I will probably at somepoint do something with his base to show this but at this point I'm happy to leave him as is.

For use outside of DS in other wargaming projects then yeah, a portal or something to explain his lack of lower half would probably be needed.

Re: Despoiler's log of a little bit of everything

So, another day and more painting completed.

First we must travel to the black abyss with "The Four Kings"

    First abit of reference art:

And the models (close up of one as they are identical)

And a group shot of all of them

Then we travel to Aldia's keep to meet the "Guardian dragon"

First up abit of reference material

This just leaves the darkroot expansion to go. But I have run low on primer and won't be able to get any until next week.

    Until then.

Re: Despoiler's log of a little bit of everything

So here is the darkroot expansion for Darksouls the board game. There is quite alot to go through and plenty of pictures so I will skip the reference stuff.

Starting of with the plow and shears scarecrows:

Next is the Mushroom parent and child:

    The stone Knights:

    The demonic foliage:

    The stone guardians:

    And the bosses,

    Artorias:

And and his loyal friend, Sif:

Thats all the dark souls content for now as the other two megaboss models (asylum demon and Vordt) won't be arriving for a while.

I have pre-ordered them but aren't being sent yet (Vordt has been delayed due to the protective plastic tray having been badly designed causing breakage of the model in transit). So I will have to wait until Wave 3 for both of those.

Until then I will be getting back on track with both Space crusade and Silver tower. This Plog has been quiet for far too long....

    Until then.

    Quick update.

With my working week being exceptional there hasn't been much painting. But this hasn't stopped my pile of "things to paint" building...

Yup, deep madness has arrived at last.

Also had an update on my dark souls order. Appears they are splitting the orders due to the mess with the Vordt model. Which means I have an Asylum Demon winging its way to me as we speak.

    Thats all for now,

A little progress has been made with painting through Deep Madness.

So far I have managed to paint through two investigators and 4 of the enemy types.

    First the investigators,

    Randi:

    Roman:

    As for the monsters,

    Husk (rear) and Mindeaters (front)

    Agony:

    Delirium:

This puts me at roughly 30-40% through the core box.

    Until next time.

    Have finished the core box.

    The investigators:

    Samual Smith - the captain

    Jared Drake - the soldier

    The Putrid (3 in total)

    The Ravenous (8 in total)

    Hysteria (8 in total)

    The Blind (5 in total)

    The Twisted (3 in total)

Next will be the core box epic monsters and the start of the first expansion: uncounted horrors.

    Until next time.

    Charles Ryan - Heavy Miner

    The Monsters

    Atrocity (3 models)

    Cannibal (3 models)

    Thirsters (5 models)

The box also contains a pair of statues. These were unlocks during the kickstarter campaign's backerkit phase. The have no real purpose ingame but look nice enough.

I haven't heard of deep madness; some interesting sculpts. I like your painting style, but the plastic looks a bit soft.

The plastic is harder than it looks and holds detail well. Compared to the resin prototypes they showed the detail on the plastic release versions is very similar.

    Endless Nightmares.

    Franklyn Christie - Navigator

    Sophie Brigman - Diver

    Isaiah Wiesenthal - The Prophet

    Emma Kruger - Special Agent

    Lizbeth Gibson - Hacker

    Monsters

The Bloated (12 models, 2 sculpts)

    -Dark Souls interlude-

    Painted up the abyssal Demon

Those who have experienced the video game knows this is the first boss you fight. Although returning back to the Asylum later in the game allows you to fight a more powered up version of it.

The board game expansion gives you two sets of cards to fight both a miniboss and megaboss encounter to reflect the video game experience.

    Anyway on with the pictures

    Until next time.
