New Kill Team - anyone playing?

Since my gaming group were getting into 40K we thought we'd give the new Kill Team a try.
We've played our first mission recently and it's been a blast so far.

We got Adeptus Mechanicus, Tyranids, Genestealer Cult, Necrons and Orks in our group.

Anyone else here who has given it a try?

Not yet...I am slowly building an Ork force at the moment and have just about finished my test figure.

It does seem to be going down pretty well with players from what I've heard.

It seems deeper than the current version of 40K, which is pleasing for someone with a background in WFB

Bit of a shame that extra rules for terrain require you to buy the corresponding terrain box.
It all looks very nice, but my gaming group has plenty of creepy forest to make a Death World.

Same with Rogue Trader. The new rules seem fun but I'm not interested in the two factions.

I'm sure you will be able to pick up the rules off eBay.

Have some games under my belt now. Rules seem surprisingly balanced.
The upcoming Commanders expansion seems fun as well.

Re: New Kill Team - anyone playing?

Though I grabbed a copy of the rules I never actually got around to reading them, apart from the list section.

I watched a load of battle reports from GMG and others and the more I saw the less interested I became. I really enjoyed the simplicity of 5th Ed's Kill Team but this one seems to have so much going on.

In the end I decided to have a go at returning to 2nd Ed 40k but using the Kill Team format and have created a small narrative campaign; I've almost finished the marine force and about to start the Orks; I've also made a start on the terrain...see my sig if your interested.

    The rules are pretty straightforward.
What gives you the impression they're overly complex?

Not complex...rather a lot going on...plus the more I think about it the more the whole thing feels off*. I'm not really making much sense here I know

In the end I realised what I was really after was a return to 2nd Ed or at least my vision of it and thats when I came up with the idea for my current Plog.

*Like in a setting where you have machines the size of continents what good is a handful of troopers? Even a 40k 'army' is way-way smaller than it should be, if anything a 40k army IS a Kill Team.

Still not following what you mean then...

I agree on the numbers of 40K (and WFB for that matter) to be on the low side for an actual "realistic" fighting force, but that's just a matter of ease of use.
8th edtion WFB tried to fix this, and 40+ size units became common, but in the end that was one of the factors that killed that game :-/

To be honest its been a while now since I looked at Kill Team...all I can remember is the more I looked at it the more I wanted to go back to 2nd Ed.

Re: New Kill Team - anyone playing?

I have always loved the kill team. I have the last chancres and the white dwarf that gave us the initial dive into kill teams to this day. I set up a 4th edition kill team group in my hobby store when it came out. it allowed people to try a new army and see if they were even interested in the models at a low cost and it was fun to play a game in twenty to thirty minutes.

I only just got back into the hobby after a near decade doing other things. And discovering a new kill team rule set I am hoping to get the new gaming store I have fount to let me get a table dedicated on their weekly event. I think it will be fun to explore the new rules further. I only just got the core rule and I will have the annual, elites and commander supplements before thanksgiving.

best part is you can use your standard army to play.

It's the other way around for me. I hope to expand my Kill Team into a full 40K army one day
