So the Admin says she has been badgering the hosting service for months. They never even advised her that when they did correct the issue.

    The security issue has re-arisen.

Yep. Seems like they do it quarterly.

It's sort of emblematic at this point. Fall is when I start getting back into gaming because of the change in weather, so I come back here and of course the certificate is expired.

Yeah, so the extended outage has convinced me to go elsewhere. I tried to help, but you can only push a string for so long.

    Re: Is this forum dying?

I was honestly surprised to come back here yesterday and find the site still extant!

I'm in between jobs at the moment but once I do get one I'll make sure to join the Guild at last - I've been a Warseerite for nearly 20 years at this point and was on Portent before then so I may as well start paying money to maintain the place.

    Re: Is this forum dying?

If I thought the Admins were interested in improving the site I would happily support that with actual funds.
This thread was very vocal with suggested improvements and very little of that was acted upon by the Admins. The Moderators have been VERY patient and helpful in challenging circumstances.

Earlier in the thread I said Let’s Wait And See, but after months of dropouts and very little improvement on the spaghetti junction that is the sub forums I feel like I have no more energy for this. Sorry guys, I may be throwing a minor wobbly here but I’m just frustrated! I’m joining a fraggin penal legion.

The way it was organized makes it very clear the admins really, really wanted it to be a generic wargaming forum, rather than embracing what made Warseer (and Portent, the people pretending Warseer wasn't built on the bones of Portent were always lying to themselves) popular in the first place. It was a weird bias done at the time when GW was deeply unpopular even with its own fans, and no attempt was made to change when GW had its massive renaissance.

Same name over at Reddit. See you guys over there.

I'm posting at dakkadakka.com. It's very familiar to me - probably because so many folks from here are now there.

And while they have other systems, they have a simple, easy layout and I can kvetch about GW games to my heart's content.

That was always the focus here, and even when we hated GW's current edition, the old-timers kept the lights on.

I had forgotten all about this site until I got a new computer and tried to import over my old favorites.
