    Kolonial Death Korps

    Hello

This is the project log for my small DKOK project. I have now converted 16 models and I would normally put them in a drawer at this point and forget about them Ė instead I am posting them up here to shame me into finishing them off J

    Conversions:

I have a platoon of Forgeworld DKOK gorgon troopers to separate out and repair. To eke out the small number of troopers, I will be using other GW and third part bodies and parts to build the specialist troops.

I have made two push molds of DKOK parts to help with the conversion for this project Ė one of the standard DKOK trooper head and one of the DKOK backpack. It goes without saying that I am using these parts to help with conversions for my personal use only!

    Background

The setting is set in my own personal corner of the Dark Imperium here:

    Links

The army will be the Kolonial Death Korps. Like the Baran Siege Masters, they hail from a colony founded by DKOK veterans and raise IG regiments in the style of their forebears.

    Combat Engineers:

SOTR US Infantry bodies; shotguns converted from Cadian lasguns.

The heads are a bit big (my casts are about 20% bigger than the FW original). I did have some metal pig iron heads attached to start with, but decided to switch over to the DKOK heads. Iíll give it some time Ė if they are too bobble-headed I might switch back.

    JagdKommandos (Grenadiers):

GW dark elf spearman bodies; converted cadian lasguns and arms.

C&C please Ė Iím aiming to prime these this weekend J

The heads on the engineers do look a little big but maybe they'll fit it a bit more with paint or you could green stuff some armor on the arms if not. The grenadiers seem to fit a little better, maybe because the cadia arms are beefier. Both look neat! I remember cutting up the gorgon troops back in the day when I fist started building my army, don't miss that. The grenadiers are a lot of fun in a centaur and the the engineers are all about the gas grenades!

I've primed the engineers - I think they look at little bit better now they're all the same colour. I can always lop the heads off again if they're still too big I really like your thread BTW - love the vehicles especially!

I've chopped up and repaired some Gorgon guys - I couldn't save two of the arms and I replaced then with warlord games plastic soviet arms:

Better picture of the five guys:

The last four are painting in progress, after that I’ll either need to cut up some more normal troopers or paint the engineers/grenadiers

    Inquisitor Pariah,

Ah the standings Gorgon Death Corp troopers...I have always been tempted...however already having spent too much on one FW army I have resisted.

Really like the scheme for your Death Corp models.

Good luck and remember painting a Guard army is a marathon and not a sprint.

    Cheers,

    Grenadiers!

Its been slow going, so just a painting in progress shot of the Grenadiers:

Its been weird painting them - the greenstuff copied helmets and backpacks lack definition.

It's not like painting the Gorgon troopers at all ... difficult to describe, but ...weird

I also got this painting station thing done at the weekend - sandpit cover leftovers. Sandpit cover ended up looking rubbish though as I didn't spent enough time on it

Thanks I was a bit worried about the parts all looking like they belonged together when they were painted, but I think it all comes together with paint on

Bases almost done, just waiting for some static grass tufts to arrive from eBay:

3rd Squad, 2nd Platoon, Zulu Company at ease on the north eastern approaches of Vitaskya (pacification of Chorobah)

This squads special weapon trooper (flanker) was immolated the day before after being shot by a rebel sniper. The watch master is on the far right and equipped with the by-now ubiquitous locally produced subautogun

Fire Team Alpha, 1st squad, 1st platoon, Zulu company

This small squad of grenadiers is advancing in full assault gear over the no mans land in the northern industrial sector, Vitaskya (Chorobah Pacification). Fire Team Beta is located 100 meters to the rear to provide covering fire

Thank you - though sadly I have now swept the garden path and now the backdrop is lost forever!

    Work in progress Quartermaster:

Based on a Von Carlseten WFB vampire; push mold head and warlord soviet pistol (the plastic laspistol was waaaaay too big for the hand)

    Thank you

I have unexpectedly had more spare time over the last few days than I thought I would so I thought I would make the most of it:

    Repaired Gorgon Troopers:

    Combat Engineers:

I chopped off some of the heads and shortened the necks - this helped a bit. The heads are still too big, but I think I can live with it
