Agreed, High Elves were always well designed as an army, while Dark Elves in particular was an offshot.

Also agreed on Chaos Dwarfs (they and Skaven are pure GW), though I'd add that the concepts both pioneered by Warhammer and inherited yet developed further in the WHFB setting, are given a new life in the Ninth Age, its spiritual successor. So even when looking at official stuff, the concepts set in a Warhammer-esque world are not abandoned, even though GW have nothing to do with it any longer.

The concept developments were not in vain. The community picked up the pieces, and so the Old World spirit lives on.
