    231st Valhallan

    Hello Comrades

I started to collect the old metal models for Valhalla ice warrior many year ago. Although, these models are really great, they are heavily inspired by the Soviet Union during WWII, and I wanted something more related to USSR during the Cold War or Afghanistan. After lot of error and test, I found the formula to convert every model in this army to get closer to the Afghan/Cold War look.

This thread is here to show you my army of Valhalla. I already started a Thread some time ago in French but I though my work might interest for people on this forum.

So first let's have a look at the infantry squad.

    [
Basically, these are cadian with AK-74 and WWII soviet soldier head.

Soviet flak vest had a large pounch on the back, so I made one for each soldier. In afghanistan, there were 2 model of flack vest, one olive drab and the other tan. So some flak vest are painted green and some other are painted brown.
Some AK are also painted to represent wooden handguard and buttstock, some other to represent the dark brown bakelite used.
Missile laucher and the ammo carrier. Basically I used an RPG-7. The Missile launcher operator have a shortened Ak as a back-up weapon.

Grenade launcher. I added a spare weapon: a shortened AK-74 made by cutting the standard AK
    [IMG]
Squad Radioman. I wanted something as small as the R-126 Radio.

If you have comment or questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

    So long, comrades!

Second part of the post, I was limited to 10 images.

    Heavy Weapon Team.

Heavy bolter can be changed with AutoCannon
    [IMG]

Missile Launcher: I wanted something heavier than the one used in infantry squad. I made something that looked like AT-3 missile.

    Hello comrades!

Yon can't have an Imperial Guard Army without tanks... A lot of tanks

Here is my take on the Leman Russ. My goal was to make it look like a T-72 or t-62.

Several part on these tanks are 3d printed. The turret is a T-72 one, the mudgard and the fuel drum are designed by me then printed.

I screwed a bolt below the turret to act as a conterweight. The weapons can be changed easily thanks to magnets.

    So long comrades.

Great work on those tanks, the turret options are well designed and I really enjoy the conversion work you did to trim down the Leman Russ's lower side sections by the tracks

    Hello comrades.

First thing first, I'd like to thank Nitromors and Triley for their encouragement.
By the way, if you some WIP pic about how I made the LR tracks, just ask me.

Anyway, Yesterday was army on parade so this was my entry for this year:

The story behind this display is that some IG are excepting an ork assault on the city and start entrenching in the city outskirt.
Sorry, I only took this picture of the complete entry but they will be a lot more as my entry last year was almost the same, each element will be presented separately.

    First, the display board:

It represent some city outskirt with 2 typical soviet town element: Giant propaganda painting on wall and low-budget flat building.
I wanted to make something looking like this.

Here are some new element made for this year
A military drone shaped like a sputnik

4 officers discussing aroung a table with maps.

A HQ Truck made only for the occasion since no rule exist. (based on a 15 CWT tow truck)

Next post in a few days, comrades!

    Hello Comrades,

Some tiny elements from Army on Parade display:
    A TV crew doing propaganda:

    A jeep:

Next post, we'll see the main elements of the display.

    So long, comrades.

    Hello Comrades,

Today, I present you The Mighty Baneblade that was on my armies on parade display. As the kit is expensive, I wanted to make it modular, and also to give it a soviet look.

For the Stormhammer, Doomhammer or Stormlord, I wanted the troop to be carried in an armored compartment.

2 huge claymores are here to wipe the rear of the tank before disembarking.

With its brother. This one is not modular.

    So long, comrades.

Those oil drums on the back of the tracks is a really cool detail, did you put them up on Shapeways or Thingiverse by any chance?

Some nice stuff here, I like the use of West Wind heads and AKs in particular. Those Leman Russ turrets look cool! How did you model the track guards?

Thanks comrades for encouragement and positive feedback.

    To answer question:

@Minigiant : Unfortunately, I haven't put the fuel drum on shapeways or thingiverse.
@Ragsta : The track guards were modeled with SKETCH'UP. But now, thanks to my job, I can use SOLIDWORKS, that's what I used to modify the T-72 model I found.

    So long Comrades!

    Hello Comrades,

Here is my take on the Basilisk. I wanted to make something more modern, like the MSTA.

For this used turret from a french artillery tank : the AUF-1

The tank appear more modern than the vanilla basilisk thank to these sensors.

    Paul_Thrower,

Not criticism, but an observation, the turrets seem set back a little too much...if the gun fires would they not tip over?

Following on from CB, I would agree, move it forward a tad and add a reverse dozer blade then it will improve the realism

Well move moving the turret forward mean destroying everything so no, but we can solve this issue by making it shoot backward, like the DKoK Minotaur.

    Hello comrades

I know it's been a long time but this thread is not dead.

Here is my take on the chimera. Since the model is pretty close of the BMP, there is not a lot of conversion work. Anyway, here's the pictures.

Crew called their vehicle "the gopnik express"

Back of the chimera modified to make it look like the 2 backdoor of the BMP.

    So long!
