Thanks CB. Scotch Brite pads are not actually my first choice. Jeff gifted them to me already cut and glued to tongue depressors so I ran with it.

Today I finished my Fenris Games dry stack stone walls. Last week they went into action semi painted (see here).

Great texture and clear definition make them easy to paint.

You could easily just give them a wash or paint them black and then work up with dry brushing and they would still look great.

I just picked out a few stones with Americana's Shale Green, Pebble and Ceramacoat's Charcoal.

Nice work. As to scotch brite hedges, I made hedges from the blue pick'n'pluck foam from figure cases. Paint and flock hides a lot.

It's a great idea- I have bunch laying around as well.

In the meant time, I have started ion some less regular hedging; more appropriate fro hedging in the 17th century.

I used the 3M stripping pad material but teased it out more and made it look less controlled. I added some Woodland Sceniocs tree armatures and added the pad material to it for branches. They were glued to paint stirrers and primed grey.

I used two or three different foliage products and static grasses.


I used yellow/brown lichen to represent dead wood.


Our 28mm drover and ox team give an idea of scale.

Those hedges are looking very nice.
Here are my blue foam ones. Not as natural looking as yours, but they work for gaming, especially en masse.

I received this little terrain tile from Sarissa Precision. As I had a JR Miniatuires 28mm out building (probably an out house by the looks of it) I decided to use the tile as a base for it and gussy it up a bit.

The bushes are mostly home made from 6 mm and 12 mm static grasses and SuperLeaf foliage.

The two taller shrubs are Woodland Scenics turf and SuperLeaf foliage over 3M stripping pad material.

The tree is Woodland Scenics.

This close up shot of the front shows a few casting flaws around the handle.

Murdock and I had an ECW game over the Christmas break. We needed a crap ton of hedges for it as well as the remains of an iron age hill fort so made even MOAR irregular hedging:

I added a dead tree to one piece and a gate to another:


Even with all the hedging I have in this thread we still used all of Murdock's as well as a bit of lichen to get all we needed:

The hill fort at Stamford hill in Cornwall is currently quite degraded, the trench between the vallations only about a foot deep, so I assumed it would have been ina bit better shape nearly 400 years ago:

Even still these pictures chow I should have made it a bit deeper; as it stands it would look perfectly scaled if these were 15mm figures:

Although most of my time this first quarter of 2020 has been spent building a ruined guardhouse for the Lead Adventure Forum's Build Something Contest (| made the final, BTW, ), Murdock and I plan to return to our ECW campaign should the world ever return to "normal" and some of our upcoming scenarios will require a few buildings. A couple of years ago I took advantage of a sale to pick up 4 Tabletop Workshop kits and a Perry's Medieval Cottage. I primed two of the buildings and half assembled them before getting distracted by other things; they sat in that state until about a week and a half ago.

The TW cottage is a coarser kit than the Perry's; the wood grain is pronounced and other details are nice and crisp; they would look perfectly fine with nothing other than a base coat, dry brush and a wash.

The daub is also well done, although the thatch is fairly coarse and some won't like the exposed plastic tabs that are similar to many MDF kits. Very robust though, made of thick plastic with a decently detailed interior, obviously meant for skirmish games or RPG's.


The Perry's cottage is made of thinner, finer plastic more typical of a model kit. The wood grain is fairly faint making it difficult to get a good result with a simple base coat, dry brush and wash.

The details are also finer, the interior is not meant to be seen, even still I left the roof unattached. The daub and the thatch roof were the highlights for me: realistically scaled but with enough texture to make painting easy.

Next up on the work bench, the other two TW buildings: Merchant's House and Town House.
