    Cheers .

My army plans also include a bunch of these so I am hoping that they don't take too long to get cast up... because each of these will have additional versions with different heads and maybe re-poses... so there will be quite a variety .

    Maybe ...

I've got five more sculpts on the corks (3 officers, a sgt and a lasgunner). Once those are done, the list is getting slim... so I may play about a bit .

    Inso,

Are they just for you or are we going to get a chance to buy some. I hope we can see them soon. I'm keen to see some officers.

    Re: A New Squat Army

I would say that 95% of everything that I sculpt for this project (infantry wise) will be available for purchase, at some point. The full sculpts will be and most of the conversions but there are a couple of conversions that I have just done for myself (and there will likely be a few more as well... just not very many because the whole point of this project is to get my own miniatures on the table in such a way that I don't need to spend too long converting them).

Short answer... yes the next five sculpts will be available to buy (at some point).

My focus is on my army build. That's it. All of the sales and production is being done by Macrocosm Miniatures and once they get the greens, they are out of my hands. I get copies for my own army and also to convert for further casting in the shop... making the range expand in a fluid, yet predictable way. For example:

    I sculpt a lasgunner.
    That gets sent for casting.
I get five copies sent to me... the rest will go in the shop.
3 of those copies are mine to paint/convert for my army.
2 of those copies will get converted (headswap) and sent back for casting.
I get sent 3 of each copy for my army... the rest go into the shop.

By doing that, I get variety in my army and everyone else gets an opportunity to have the same variety... when the miniatures are relesased .

Just to add a bit more information... I have only been paid (in cash) for two single greens (and that was because I needed some money for a charity I was helping at the time). My pay for this project is resin casts of my greens. Once Macrocosm has the greens, they are out of my hands... so you can see from this that building my army is the important part of this project; not making money. The other important thing is that people get the chance to collect a few of the miniatures as well... and the only way I could see of doing this was to reach a deal that was 'too good to be true' for someone and get them to take all of the production responsibilities, while providing me with the miniatures I need for my army .

I think that I have another 20 or so to go... on top of what you've already seen...

    These:

    Have now turned into these:

That means that I will have plenty of casts to convert in order to add a lot more variety to the range, once I have finished the five sculpts I am currently working on .

    The project continues... .

Well done on having all four special weapon options Inso. The special weapons options have always been something GW has struggled with. A metal Guard army with only a pair of the special weapon options available to the plastic Cadians with only two choices in the box.

... and that's why I decided that all the options should be available .

The only reason I didn't do the same for the heavy weapon trooper (no auto cannon yet) was because of time-scale for the kickstarter. That little issue will be rectified at some point... along with a heavy flamer option .

But... where's the sniper rifle option?! Now that... that is a different kettle of fish altogether ... something that needs its own special carriers .

    Re: A New Squat Army

    Thanks for the background above.

Also, will all those guys be offered on the next kickstarter? The extra four other Las Troopers variants would be great addition as that gives you a heap of variations of Troopers. I want to get my hands on the new Sgt figure. He will be great for conversions, as will the special weapon Troopers.

Are you thinking about doing Hvy Weapon teams at all?

    Fantastic job Inso.

    Re: A New Squat Army

    Cheers .

I'm sorry to say that news on Kickstarters is something I have no access to. Chris runs the production and sales so he'll put the things up that he wants, when he wants to.

Heavy weapon teams aren't something I'm too bothered about. The heavy weapon guys can have a lasgunner with them, on a single base, to act as a team. At some point, I may think about a mortar but that's three miniatures for one base... so I would be averse to making different versions with headswaps so it would be up to the buyer to customise... but you never know... I can be fickle sometimes .

In other news... here's a WIP of the three junior officers that I am currently working on. Most of the 'boring' bit is done now so it's on to the interesting stuff :

Once there is an officer, all I'll need is a standard bearer and medic and all the basic slots for infantry will be filled .

Officers will get berets... they are on the battlefield, after all .

Not spread arms... just arms doing things...

    Re: A New Squat Army

Sculpting has continued... but at a much slower pace :

In the image are a Sgt, Lasgunner and three officers (at the back) and a bunch of lasgunners from some of the casts at the front... however...

I decided to work on the Sgt and fitted arms and weapons... then I realised it was the lasgunner body . That meant swapping a pouch for a holster and gaining an extra Sgt (which, I guess, isn't too bad). As a result, I decided to take what was left of a Sgt cast (after removing weapons) to make an additional lasgunner.

So I now have eleven WIP miniatures on the table now (rather than ten) and am currently working to finish the Sgt-mistake and a couple of heads on two advancing lasgunners.

The mistake highlights where I am at the moment. I suffer from chronic pain and restless leg syndrome... so sleeping has been really difficult lately (especially with a long spate of very humid weather). Add to that, being unable to take painkillers because they send me do-lally (meaning I can't take them and go to work). Normally, it isn't a problem and I manage it but the weather has kicked my buttocks (in a Forrest Gump voice ) and made things so that I lack a lot of motivation for sculpting (I've been watching a lot of Battletech play throughs on Twitch/You Tube - look for Baradul, he's a chilled out, German streamer who produces good output).

TLDR - WIPs shown... more to come but at a slower pace until the weather improves .

    Re: A New Squat Army

It's been a while but seeing as this isn't just me advertising miniatures and is all about me building an army, I have started to put a bit of paint down on some of the casts. This is mostly because I am not into sculpting at the moment but also because the whole point of this project is to build my army... so I have started to paint a few miniatures :

In a bid to add a bit of variety amongst the same miniatures, the ones at the back have tanned skin, the ones in the middle will have black skin and the ones at the front will have white skin . I am not painting these in squads... just as batches of miniatures that will be arranged into squads later so all of the squads will get a good mix of miniatures, skin colours and the odd conversion here and there... but obviously, that's a bit of a way off yet.

Still... the journey continues ... more to come.

Variety is good, finally started adding black skin to my Guard and it's looking much more interesting as a result.
Really good models here, and sure your painting style is going to do them great justice!

Cheers ... and it's just Halfords grey primer... it's good to paint on and seems to cover any residue from casting that acrylics won't cover (after I've washed them is soapy water of course ).
