A New Squat Army

This little 'blog' will be for a Squat army that is made up of my own sculpts and casts. At the moment, I only have a few miniatures but am planning on putting together a command platoon (for starters) which is made up of:

1x Company Commander
1x Commissar
1x Command Squad
1x Ratling Sniper Squad
2x Infantry Squad

I haven't decided on how they will be transported or supported... but I want everything to be my own work... so this could be the start of something big and protracted.

Enough blabbing on... Here's all the Squat miniatures painted so far :



I decided that I'd find a place in this army for an existing unit, a small unit of Ratling Snipers :



I've painted the bases so they now match those of the Squats.

Thank you . I am currently in the process of sculpting two special weapon troopers (each will have separate weapons... 3 to start with) and another lasgunner. Once these are finished and cast, I will add a few alternative heads on the bodies for a bit of variety. Then, the next priorities will be another Sgt and a Comms trooper (or two).

I've got five more sculpts on the table, a lasgunner, two specialists and two headswaps for an existing lasgunner... so more will be sorted very soon (hopefully).

Updates? What are they?

I have finished two new (headswap) lasgunner sculpts and am half-way through sculpting some webbing on three more (2 specialists and a lasgunner)... these are for "the big project".

For my army, I have cleaned up and primed another nine lasgunners and have almost finished sculpting three new heads on some existing bodies... so I'll be adding 12 new bodies to the army but they won't have a place in the organisation chart yet because they are duplicates and I will be spreading them between the various squads.

I haven't got images to share (yet) but I'll tee some up, once I've finished the headswaps .

Here's a bit of a progress pic. The top two will be available to buy (at some point) the bottom three are for my own army and are one-offs :



I won't be posting any images of the full sculpts (just yet) because they are not worth showing off at the moment. I need to get a few more bits finished for them to not be 'body blanks' .

Thanks mate. They look great and I really like the faces you are doing. Any chance of a comparison with an old Squat figure?

I agree with Lost Egg, that the stern face is so appropriate for Space Dwarves.

Lets not forget the "taking the p**s" face on Squat number three (bottom row).

He's just enjoying the fight ... I try to add a little variation to the troopers... so I try all sorts of expressions.

Now that I've finished the head-swaps for my troopers, I have had the chance to get a bit of priming done so I can add a few new recruits to the army :

Cheers ... but I have five sculpts on the corks that will add to the numbers and if I start painting, they won't get finished very quickly...

... I'm at that point where I am torn between getting sculpts finished for the 'big project' (so that people gan get more troops and I can have casts to convert for even more options) and getting my own army painted... especially seeing as my own army will need casts of the sculpts I am working on... It's a proper dilemma, that's for sure .

The twelve primed ones look good.

I see a kneeling Squat sculpt for either a heavy weapon or variance in the ranks.
