Welcome to the project log for my Sisters of Battle army. As you may or may not know, the smallest Sisters of Battle force fielded is called a Mission. Though it never specifies exactly how large a Mission is, I figured that a full force org chart ought to do it. The final force will consist of 6 Battle Sister squads in Rhinos, 3 Celestian Squads in Immolators, 30 Seraphim, 3 exorcists, and one canoness. I started a thread on this project before, but it was a) in the wrong forum and b) I took the photos way too close up and all the tiny flaws that were unnoticable to the human eye got picked out really well :cries:

So here I am, starting over. I'm beginning with the vehicles, and yes I know the highlights are very basic and not quite perfect, but I really prefer my stark shadow grey highlights to what they do in the army book, I think it preserves the ominous blackness of the tanks- usually you don't want to have solid surfaces with no play of shadows, but I want my tanks to look so black that light is just absorbed. And on the same token, I want my tanks to have details that are visible without getting up really close... hence my highlighting scheme. But more important than my highlights is the feel of the tanks- I'm going for baroque, ornate, downright gaudy decorations on my vehicles.

They look good althought there is one tiny thing I would like to point out. The banners, on the refutor make sense because they are on the back and they are fluttering in the wind as the vehicle speeds along to deliver its holy squad of scientologis-sisters of battle I mean. On the sanctus anim rhino however the banner on the front should be resting flat against the hull as the wind or whatever force is pushing against the tank as it rumbles forward. Thats just my 2 cents but I look forward to seeing the rest of this blog.

I like how you've built your second dedicated Rhino - I've been using the Immolator top-plate bit and switching over the sister in her gun chair for the sister in her bubble which I've not been overly pleased with.

Ok, time for an update on the project since i've slipped waay off the first page

Working on Exorcist #2 right now and I'm going for something a bit unorthodox- red pipes on the organ. They're painted with red gore, then blood red, then washed with black ink and highlighted again with a blood red drybrush. They look very nice and will have a shiny, lacquered look once I varnish them. I think I will name it Invictus, or invincible. Doesn't hurt to shore up the AV13 with a nice name does it?

After I finish Invictus and then my 3rd exorcist, I will be working on a Saint Celestine conversion into a canoness. Celestine is not really worth it IMO (plus she's from another order and oficially she's dead) but the repentia mistress conversion I did didn't turn out to my satisfaction and I'm very tired of the same old canoness that everyone has, beautiful though she may be.

Btw, can anyone tell me what the check in the box on the rating column of my thread means?

What about the older Cannoness with the Combi-Bolter/Flamer and Praesidia Protectiva? A very nice miniature.

Use Celestine as a living Saint - she's too much for a Cannoness (and I like my WH's *blingy*...)

Not only is she not a great mini, she needs far too much customization to be worthwhile. You can get ok results filing off flamer tanks on peoples' backs, but never great ones. Plus, they don't sell her anymore, at least not in the online store.

I am of course not planning to plunk Celestine down on the table and call her a canoness- I'm not the heretic you think I am! I'm definitely not using her big flapping cloak and will replace it with a more modest Seraphim jump pack. I'll also replace her dove holding arm with a canoness' inferno pistol, and I may replace the Ardent Blade with a regular canoness blessed weapon if it's too flashy, though I don't think it will be. And I also won't use her big shiny halo, i'll probably use that part to mark a regular battle sister as a bolter wielding VSS. As for the scrolls and such that she's standing on, I may snip those off and have her on the ground, though that might not be practical.

As if that weren't enough, I'm planning on draping her with a hooded cloak to represent a cloak of St. Aspira. I agree that Celestine isn't ideal for a conversion because she's very flashy, but there are only two options: One is the Repentia mistress who has cool armor and robes but is short, fat, and stubby. The other is the actual Canoness model which is beautiful but nearly impossible to customize beyond weapons and wargear. Assuming that Celestine flops like the repentia did, I'll probably use either a bolt pistol seraphim (the one with one pistol up and the other forwards) or a heavy weapon girl, probably a heavy flamer since there is no huge tank or ammo case directly attached, she becomes just a fancy lady with a gas mask and no arms once you change the backpack.

Hehe I don't mean to hurt your feelings Thousand, I'm just not a big fan of that model ^^ I used to use her back when I started SoB, before the new codex, but I grew tired of the model.

That one's good too, though I prefer the standard Seraphim a bit more since she has a VERY well done face and hair compared to a lot of the others, and I could do more neat things with her like tatoos on her face and maybe a litany scroll bow in her hair I made a VSS out of her using a canoness eviscerator, she's posed leaning back and firing as if she's doing a hit-and-run, with fluttering custom purity seals all over her jump pack, it turned out very well I used the helmet one for another Seraphim VSS, gave her an eviscerator and a scroll which wraps around her bolt pistol and trails down in front of her, also a neat conversion. Both will be up as soon as I get them painted (and get my own camera )

My canoness is done and O M G. I love how well she turned out, she is a basic Seraphim sister, the one with one pistol pointing forwards and the other up. Her forwards hand was replaced with the canoness inferno pistol, angled slightly gangsta style with a length of chain wrapped around her wrist with a large fleur de lis hanging from it.

Her other arm is a Blessed Weapon arm, but the blade has been replaced with the giant Emperor's Champion sword, which is angled down with its tip touching the ground- it looks huge and heavy, like she has to drag it behind her as she flies around, which is the desired effect ^^ The sword arm also has a litany scroll wrapped around it which flutters across her front.

The thing that really makes the model is the hooded cloak which shades her face and gives her a really mysterious, angelic appearance. I was going for a Heroes of Might and Magic V archangel, and I think I nailed it pretty well... I'm so excited about this model I can't wait to share some pic, I'll be getting a cam soon!

Whee, after driving around in circles for a whole afternoon, returning a cheap camera that couldn't take a pic of a distant skyline, let alone a close-up miniature, then driving to another store where they had the cam I wanted, then driving to the first store to get the memory card.. I have my camera! And some pics of my canoness, as promised. Here she is, and please excuse the cliche name because she really deserves nothing less
