Thread: no-use's Tank Co. Project Log.

    no-use's Tank Co. Project Log.

I've always been a fan of the IG but could never solidify an army list or paint scheme. Recently, I decided to just do a Tank Co. I plan on building this army to a comfortable 2150 pts.

Here's a pick of my HQ Russ. The details still aren't finished.

Here is my test model for a Storm Trooper Sgt.

Some Storm Trooper conversions. Pre-green stuff.

I'm not too sure of the DA green for the Tanks. I really like the Vostroyan Tank scheme that GW put out. Here's the link to the color scheme. Vostroyan Scheme

Until I solidify my paint scheme I'll continue building the army. More pictures can be found in my photobucket...link in sig. They're a little out-dated but you can see the direction I'm heading in.

C&C welcomed. Also, motivation VERY much needed. This is an army that I'd really like to finish....and soon.

Those Storm Troopers look good, could maybe do with a bit more armour plating on the sgt though. Nice solid colour scheme as well, I like. The tank looks ok to me.

Nice tank. The turret panel looks like a piece of cardboard in that picture, though. Your colour scheme makes them look like Dark Angel scouts. I'd be tempted to do a different colour for the fatigues.

It's actually sun light shining on the FW Brass Eagles.

I was thinking of changing the color of the armor. Maybe Chaos Black with a blue-grey highlight or Catachan. Not too sure.

This was my original color scheme. The fatigues are a mix of Catachan, Bleached Bone and Fortress grey.

    Thoughts?

you are quite a good painter. I really like dark green tanks but i think it comes down to where your army is based. Desert go bony tanks but other go green

Looks really solid, good stuff. Maybe a little more weathering on the upper half of the tanks.

I think that looks much better, maybe without the red leg armour/puttees. Where's that hooded head from?

I added the red leg armour as a homage to the American Artillery Gunners of the past. The gunpowder used would leave a slight red powder residue. They were nicked named "the red legs", very imaginative . I feel that every regiment needs something distintive.

As for the hood, it's a Bret. Archer head. IMO, looks great on a infiltrating veteran of countless battles. That guy has yet to get his plasmagun painted.

@Still learning, I have yet to figure out where this regiment comes from. I don't even have a name for them yet. Thoughts or suggestions would be great.

Any suggestions for the plasma coils?

And, thanks for the words of encouragement everyone.

These are REALLY nice. I like the red legs theme, but its a little jarring...maybe use that same red towards the top of the model or on the guns, or tone it down slightly.

    Fantastic painting skill, btw.

Re: no-use's Tank Co. Project Log.

Thanks for all the comments guys. The feedback is very helpful.

Here's a small update. The pictures are crap due to the fact that I can't find my digital camera and used the camera option on my phone. They're a little dark and fuzzy. But, hopefully, you all can make out what I'm doing.

    Chimera #1- awaiting paint.

Chimera #2 right side skirt w/ #1 in background.

As always, C&C welcomed. Hopefully I'll find my camera and post clearer pictures.

I really like the scheme and would keep it. I was going to suggest a different color on the legs, but after your explanation I changed my mind. What I would do is either a.) use a darker red, or b.) add a touch of red somewhere ele on the minis to tie the two halves together. Either way, great job on the painting, really makes me want to start IG.

Where are the armour skirts from? Scratchbuilds? Like the turret on the chimera as well. Nice stuff.

Re: no-use's Tank Co. Project Log.

@CPT_Tiberius, it seems that you're not the only one suggesting to add red elswhere on the fig. I may just have to. As for starting IG, go for it. I'm a Marine-boy at heart but love the Guard. A very versitile army.

@t-tauri, the skirts are scratch builds. The one with the half eagle still needs the rivets added. You can sort of make 'em out in Chimera #1.

Again, thanks for the feedback. Keep 'em coming...I need the motivation.

Re: no-use's Tank Co. Project Log.

    Thanks Scorpio.

Got the 19th out of 20 Storm Troopers built. Just need to get the last plasma gunner converted. Well, I'm off to finish the 2nd Chimera and the 20th S.T. before the wife gets back.

I'll post my army list ASAP. As well as my "to do" list. Once the camera is located you all can expect a real up date.

Wow your painting skills are quite something. I'm especially impressed by how well your scheme works over a number of different model types. Normally I wouldn't imagine that a steel legion guy and a Cadian based trooper could look like they belong in the same unit, but your scheme unites them in such a way that it works beautifully. Great job.

Re: no-use's Tank Co. Project Log.

    Thanks Mr.Chair....

    Another update, of sorts.

This is my Commissar Exterminator Tank. And, I need some advice on how to complete the front hull detailling.

    another view...

As an Imperial leader, a Commissar is responsible for instilling loyalty amonst the troops and to also "re-invigorate" the not-so-brave souls that make up the Imperial Guard. With this in mind, I wanted to make the vehicle into a bit of a holy relic--complete with Imperial icons. The thought is that, once they see this tank, they'll feel some anxiety to either improve or be filled with bravery and reasurance that their Commissar has arrived.

Brief description on the tank. The hull had the typical "hull mounted" Heavy Bolter. I opted to remove it and relocated it to the pintle mount. Now, it leaves the front end rather empty.

Any ideas as to what to add to the front? I'm stumped. The best i can come up with is some form of targetting system...a surveyor, of sorts.

Again, using the cell phone to take pictures until the camera can be found.

Re: no-use's Tank Co. Project Log.

You could take some xenos(doesnt really matter who) take a spike and ram it through the model and glue it to the front. It comes to my mind that the eldar guardian would probably be best for this cause all you need is a minor leg adjustment to make them lie flat.
