Aeternus VII - 4x6 ft. Cityfight board

Hello,

So my brother and me are finally starting our own Cityfight board, not with the CoD buildings from GW though. But the buildings from Amera this because the buildings from Amera give me a more cityfight feeling, and it looks like there actually lived people in the past.
Anyways here are most of the materials i'll be using for the project.

• 1 kg of slate
• Razor wire
• Lots and lots of bitz for detailing etc.
• Old painted Leman Russ
• 3 sheets of 1,5mm plasticard
• Repair paste
• PVC pipes
• Chaos Black spray
• Roughcoat*
• Amera buildings
• Modelling Sand*
• PVA glue*
• 4x6ft. wooden plate* (still need to buy it)

And here's the first building assembled:

I had a problem with the Roughcoat, but today i'll get a new one from GW..

I will post more updates in the weekend!

Light of the emperor made a good cityfight board earlier. So if u need any ideas look at his. Sorry not sure of a link.

Got a little update, I assembled the factory. It still needs a lot of work.
I'll add; Slate, roughcoat, rubble, razorwire, Oil tank, extra details (dead guardsmen) etc.
Anyways here's the picture:

That factory looks really nice. Better than GWs IMO. I will be interested to see what it looks like detailed and painted.

Good start! I used Amera buildings as well because they are inexpensive and have some neat designs. I was able to convince Amera to add buttresses to their buildings for a more gothic look.
What's your planned layout or will all of the pieces be movable?

Wow, the Amera stuff is awesome! And so cheap too. I'd love to build up a proper cityfight board with them, if only I had somewhere to put it.

Great, I love the amera stuff. I will also watch this with much interest...I've recently had my grandfather cut up 36 1' squares of mdf board for my own modular cityfight board...so any inspiration I can gather from your project or assist with will be great.

They will be modular, so I'll have more varity.. There will be a road, so it'll be the same 'pattern' but the buildings are still movable..

Update time!

As you can see I sprayed it with Roughcoat, and I have to say that it feels awesome! I really has more structure.. Thanks LotE for the tip you send me via PM a while ago..
Worked some more on the Factory, added slate, modelling sand, a barricade/fuel dump, razor wire, and extra details.





I'll add more sand once this is dry, I think I'm going to undercoat it by tomorrow,

The tiny eagel emblem from the IG vehicle accessory sprue is a nice touch on the building's face. That barricade is a great touch!

...may I ask what tip LotE gave? It may be of some use to me in the near future...

The Factory will be undercoated by tomorrow, hopefully it's going to be painted tomorrow..

Would you please tell me how the paint sticks on the ALMERA buildings 'cause one of my friends has a whole bunch of those indeed nice pieces but we had the problem GW's spray paints don't stick on the surface!

They are chipping away. Roughcoat or sanding the models first did not help either.

We also washed with soap before assembling and painting and let it dry. Still it did not stick on.

We really like Almera's range of buildings but the paintjob problems are sad.

Another I've found with some of the Amera stuff is that you need to stick to a board and leaves a cavity underneath it is prone to the paint cracking as the plastic flexes. Thing to do is before priming, cut a few small slits and fill with expanding polystyrene foam, the sort you get in aerosol cans from DIY/hardware stores. Fills the cavity. Once dry any excess trim away with a knife.

I actually haven't had any problems with paint chipping.
Try using automobile primer. A lot of people use it for forgeworld because it has better adhesive qualities.

Oh? A good idea. I will try this sort of spray paint and read the FAQ section of Almera once again.

The buildings will look awesome too.
The GW building accessory sprue and FW's brass eagles are your best friends. They add an instant 40K look to your table.

You can get a lot of inspiration from Dawn of War battlefields and those in Fire Warrior (yes I am referring to that game). One thing they both share are the massive banners hanging from the buildings. Simply pick a color that looks best, add a FW eagle and your set! Note that you want a heavy fabric which won't stretch or fall apart as you cut it.
Another thing that not many cityfight tables include are trees and grass. If you think about it, almost every city has trees lining the main roads, or built parks, etc. I would think the imperium is the same way. The trees can be decimated by war, but even then, they'll add some color to a board that is usually nothing but greys and browns.
As for roads, if you want to invest in your board and go all out: dollhouse flooring. I used their kitchen flooring which forms hexagonal stones...much like the streets of old Europe...sorta.
